but why should i get outta bed for less than $17.22@ hour?

Um, what monetary unit is that in? Do you mean US dollars? If so then that hourly wage is nothing to piss at.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I own a company that takes minority interests in developing businesses that need capital. If they do well--good. If they don't do well, I take them over build them up and sell them--also good.

FWIW--I started out with my brother and brother-in-law with a secondary business in Connecticut--We bought a house when we were just out of college, fixed it up and flipped it, then kept buying--and flipping. We switched over to commercial property after a while and never took any money out of the business for 25 years.

I sit around and post on TNCR. During my breaks I draw pretty pictures on the computer, read and write. Sort of like Dewey but I've forgotten how to use crayons.

Hay 89th, (and you other young Turks around this place,)

Buy, refurbish and sell real estate. It shouldn't be what you do for a living. But, do it slowly over time, let it grow, and you'll do really well. Really well.

It did me just fine--it will do the same for you.

It's a fine idea. Something I wish I could have gotten into but never had any seed money to get started. That's the hardest part for most I would think.

Want to front a semi-young Turk here in California?

Nope.

Me and my brother were sons of a Uniroyal rubber worker and my brother in law the son of a bartender/best customer of a bar.

We scraped our nickles together. Nobody GAVE us nothing. Best you do it the right way like we did.

Might your pictures have been published somewhere where one might see them?

I am flyin' high this morning, I have a second publication interested in my writing. :excited: The editor wants to meet for coffee. I may pass out.

Sure! Actually, I've been meaning to do it myself but I haven't gotten around to it yet. And with a spanish presentation due monday, it's not going to happen until next week. I'm not much of an artist anyways :P

Well for eight weeks in the spring, I referee basketball games in my church's Upward Basketball league on Saturdays for $10/hr, but I would do it for free. I have to fill out some stupid tax form though so I suppose it counts as employment.

I have been a insurance adjuster for 17 years, always in commercial general liability. Had to do a little bit of auto claims from time to time but mostly not. In the past I had done a lot of public liability but am currently working as a Third Party Administrator for a self-insured nationwide drugstore chain. Most of the claims occur because someone fell inside or outside the store, someone bought some product that caused them some kind of damage or injury, someone was stopped for potential shoplifting, or someone's prescription had a mistake.

This is where i work. It's the largest shopping complex in Europe.

It's kinda funny. You see foreigners come and visit and get lost so easily and get completely blown away by the size of the place and yet, i know it like that back of my hand. I could give you directons from one shop to any other without even having to be there.

To be fair, i must have been to the metro over 1,000 in my life. :silly:

I'm a data entry pinhead. I work for a large mental health/ mental retardation provider. I enter services into a computer database, as well as perform other office tasks. Should I mention that I'm a liberal who lives with her parents? :leaving:

No need to mention it -- for anyone who works for a mental retardation provider, that would be redundant.

I manage, grow and invest other people’s money and am always looking for more. I’m also on my 12th year working for someone old enough to be my mother, but because of lots of things, like I can’t see well enough to drive, I live at her house one out of every two weeks. She has me do all kinds of things, many of which I don’t always like or agree with, but I do them well and she’s happy with my work, usually more than she’d get from anyone else. I’m paid well enough not to leave but barely enough to stay and there’s nothing else right now that even seems solid enough to count on. I plan on working at something the rest of my life as all my family has done. Retirement? What’s that?

Meanwhile, my kids still live in my house. Everybody works their butts off to stay even. The oldest kids are planning on moving out soon – good – as soon as they find a house to buy, which might be very soon or a few months. They seem to think that just because I bought mine cheap, they could do the same too. Well, they could, but would they? It doesn’t always happen that way. For a guy who nobody ever thought would do more than sell pencils I’m doing ok. Sort of in a bit of a hard spot right now but that may change.

I’ve also just completed a book which I’m editing before sending to the copyright office. Then I’ll find an agent, etc. etc.

My youngest kid is my new driver. So far it barely pays for her wheels, but in time. She doesn’t know it yet but since she’s only really interested in money and people, land and houses, etc. She’ll probably end up learning my business, helping me grow it and taking it over when I want something else to do – like teaching the piano. Yeah, I was always pretty good at that, but it’s hard earning a living doing anything with them unless you do more than play them.

Have an inside track on a much better job with a well known financial institution. But there have been management problems, no new job training program yet, etc. etc. I can’t even believe they’d ever consider hiring me because I’m 55 and legally blind, but they say they would since I know how to manage portfolios and have done quite well over the last four years. They even call me up to advise them once in a while. We’ll see. As I say, Ill work doing something because it’s not just the money, it’s the service to other people, it’s keeping the mind interested in something, it’s helping move things along the outcomes of which I may never see – both figuratively and literally.

I also started an advertising agency on the side which I work on most nights...we have a couple clients and hopefully that'll eventually become a full-time gig once we win a couple major contracts.

89th - that's awesome. I hope it works out well for you.

I did that too for a long time. But debugging Prolog did me in. I’ll have none of it now.
