The reality is that Hussein was a warlord in addition to being a tyrant. Had he been content with simply being the tyrannical President of Iraq, he would still be in power and enjoy similar recognition and grudging respect as does Hosni Mubarak, King Abdullah, possibly even Hafez al-Assad and most recently, the born again, Col. But Hussein was a warlord tyrant. Big difference. Warlord tyrants are not acceptable. They upset the staus quo and behave unpredictably like Napoleon, Mussolini and that infamous Austrian Corporal. No the world likes its tyrants to be internationally neutral like Franco, Tito, Pinochet and Mobuto Sese Seko. So the Sunni autocracy or totalitarian rule may have to come back if the world wants a unified Iraq- it's just that next time the tyranny will undoubtedly have to have a kinder & gentler personality cult at the helm- something more like a Milosevic. |

Execute the guy, and have done with it. I always thought it was a real shame that Hitler escaped the hangman's noose. The Nazis didn't grow in time, in fact I would say that their executions diminished them. [I'm normally anti-death penalty, but this guy is safer put beyond rescue and reinstatement] |

Did the UK run over your dog, or something? Actually, I quite like Minnesota. It's a dry cold*. *- 'It's a dry cold' was the phrase used by the people who persuaded us to move to Ontario. For their sins they will be going somewhere very dry and very, very hot. |

Nonsense John. Ontario is a *wet cold*. Alberta is dry cold. Easy to dress for- quite often you don't even notice that it's -30. |

We certainly used to notice. Giving up smoking was almost a relief. (I'm actually being dishonest - I loved the really cold days, the smell of clean air at -30C and 7am is fantastic, providing the air doesn't move fast.) |
