HOLY CARP!!!
Supposedly Saddam is why we went in.

Absolutely *NO* exit strategy is groovy, but at least this one makes a little sense.

We can be out by Jan 2007.

We freed them from the tyrant, now the rest is up to them.

Just leave.

Just as well as you are currently living with the 600,000 or 700,000 dead Iraqis "on your soul" that America is responsible for, "Mr. I just care about souls."

We invaded.
600,000 died.

Look, Haliburton has already made a killing.
Billions of dollars are unaccounted for.
Enough's enough.

Besides those 500,000 are going to die anyway with us there.
The whole thing is stupid.

A correction to two inaccuracies you have just posted:

1) No where near 600,000 to 700,000 deaths have resulted from the invasion. That is an inflated statistic.

2) Haliburton has lost its shirt in Iraq. it is currently trying to sell off Kellogg, Brown and Root but nobody wants it.

500,000, 400,000, 300,000, or one.

Same thing.

My point remains.

No, your point is greatly diminished if the number is a fraction of what Saddam was killing.

The same reasoning led to a million dead in Cambodia.

I guess it doesn't matter, though. We can make a movie that will garner critical acclaim, maybe win some half-dressed, sorry excuse for an actress an Academy Award, and feel good about ourselves.

By then, the news cameras and the talking heads will have moved onto the next perpetual crisis. After all, they're just ignorant sand niggers, right Kenny? They can breed faster than they can be killed.

The graves don't go away, though. But since we won't have to look at them, it doesn't matter anymore.

Sometime in the next 100 years or so, this nation will cease to exist, or will exist in a form that our Founders would not recognize. You know why, kenny? Because we as a people no longer have the intestinal fortitude to fight, and to win.

It would be if our only mission was the death of Saddam. If that would ensure our security from whatever metastasizes in Iraq after we leave I would agree with you. Since that is obviously a pipe dream I cannot.

But what does this mean? I mean WTH. We're there now. We're paying for it everyday. Like 2 billion dollars a month. Ain't no civilian (ok maybe one) made any decision about how many troops and what to do. And look at it now. What's happening today? This boils down to will? We're on the verge of winning the war in Iraq? Please.

It's getting worse, not better. We can't occupy Iraq forever, for any reason.

The ONLY reason I can see for someone thinking we should leave now is if they are convinced that we've already lost and there's no way to make things better.

IMO, that opinion is entirely wrong, but if that is your opinion, I can see why you would want us to leave.

I dont think we have lost anything...we have accomplished almost every goal we set out to do...and now we are in the final and very long stage of stabilizing the region.

That isn't clear at this point, IMO. I think the US public need to get it into their heads that this isn't easy, it was never going to be easy, and what's more it is going to take a very long time before things calm down.

The US has a responsibility to the Iraqi people, one which a number of people appear to be suggesting that they should walk away from.

Somebody in here said 'The Iraqi people have shown that they don't deserve democracy'. How nice for you to be able to make this judgement. How nice to be able to have the power to bomb, kill, maim and destroy, and then say 'that's it, we're leaving, you don't deserve us anyway, you haven't been able to clear up the mess that we started.' The Iraqi people have been living under the government of a brutal and bloodthirsty dictator for the last God-knows how many years. Is it any wonder they're struggling to pull their country out of this morass?

The objective of this war was not to depose Saddam. The objective was to bring peace and stability to this country, and in the process hopefully benefit US interests, as well as those of the Middle East and thus the world. You haven't finished yet. You aren't anywhere even close.

I disagree, I think he could be hung by the end of the year...if not, end of January.

Or maybe he'll just pull a "Ken Lay" heart attack in prison.

Oh, you mean OIL?

Funny, Bush didn't say this was a war for oil.

Well if that's the case then I agree completely.
Let's stay till the oil flows for the three SUVs in every American driveway of every American 4000 sq ft air conditioned house.
By All Means!

But let's just tell the truth then.
This is a war for oil.

Screw all this morality and democracy BS.
That's all a lie.
Let's be honest.
We are selfish and gluttonous country that will stop at nothing to preserve the American way of life.

So be it.
We are staying till the oil flows.

How far do we have to go before we can say it's "stable enough"? Iraq is never going to be a sandy version of Pleasantville. "Staying the course until we ensure safety and prosperity for the Iraqi people" doesn't fly with me, because depending on which definition's used we may never get there.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

No, I certainly don't mean oil. US interests aren't solely focused about oil. It is very much in US interests to have a stable democracy in place in the M. East. Isn't that obvious?

You can get oil whatever kind of government there is in Iraq.
