If these texts that Larry has quoted can be rationally explained then I am 100% fine with them. I realize that my explanation of OT practices seems far-fetched to you but really when you understand how things in religion change as cultures change drastically over long periods of time it is not. I'll even issue a challenge; the first person to reasonably account for the quotations that Larry posted using Muslim theology wins my thanks and maybe a Three Musketeers candy bar. |

I forgot to add: I do respect all others, Muslims, atheists, Hindus, all equally. I do not have to agree with their beliefs or their religion to respect them. I respect them as human beings. |

Yes, and there are some, not just in America but in Iran itself, who have serious doubts whether Islam even qualifies as a “religion” in the same breath with any others they have known; Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, etc. - very severe edit – |

That's not an answer. Being that you belong to none of them, you should be an impartial observer. Is what Larry writing true? And if it is, do you find analagous scriptures in other religions? |

These are swiftly googled. They might not be quite as bad as the muslim ones, but they're still pretty freaky. In my humble opinion, of course.
Those biblical types were a real bundle of laughs. In the unlikely event that I ever get to heaven, I really hope these buggers are on a different floor. |

Jolly, I am not in a religion. I have no expertise. I am not going to pick them apart and argue for or aginst this or that point. Why should I? I'm not in a religion. I hear other people will do that though if that's how you care to spend your time. I just am arguing that all religions deserve respect. |

I think one big difference between these and the ones Larry posted (aside from none of the rise to the level of pedophilia) is that no one in the last 2,000 years or so has been touting them. They are anachronisms. Khomeini was saying the stuff Larry posted not 30 years ago. Christianity seems to have outgrown its anachronisms. |

Not all Muslims interpret the Quran the same way. Not all Christians interpret the Bible the same way. Not all Jews the Torah. Not all Muslims enjoy being associated with bin Laden and al Zaqawi just like not all Christians like being associated with Jerry Falwell or Fred Phelps. |

'A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord' What a stupid rule. Who made that one up? That's even stupider than the rule about eating fish on Fridays. What if I don't like fish? 'He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord' Talk about adding insult to injury. Some loony cuts off my family jewels and suddenly they relinquish my heavenly parking spot? Well, I can see the logic there, Levi, old man. |
