Although I do think conservatives in general are "cut from a sterner cloth",

What do you mean by that, exactly?

I simply haven't seen conservatives whine and complain as much as I've seen liberals whine and complain. Democrats seem to protest more, complain to the government more, cry "I was disenfranchised!" more, et cetera.

So this is based solely on personal observation? If it is, you're using personal experiences you've had with (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt) hundreds of people to make an assumption about a few million?

Yes.

I never claimed that it was based on stats with confidence intervals and margins of error. Based on my observation, which I'm not going to apologize for, I see liberals whine WAY more than conservatives do.

Although I do think conservatives in general are "cut from a sterner cloth", I think last night's democrat sweep was more than predicted, so it's not really as much as a shock as when Kerry lost to Bush in '04.

Perhaps a better test of conservative cloth would be to see how they would handle President Clinton in '08.

Still, it is Jolly's observation and I agree it is accurate. Some of the lefties on the board could barely function after Bush won in 2000. The right-wingers seem to be moving on. Maybe it is because there are very few strict right-wing conservatives here.

She has actually become quite the conservative Democrat.

I think that's fair. But I see conservatives froth at the mouth a lot more than liberals.

Oh, sit on a sharp stick and rotate, Larry. I called it before the election ... whatever happened, WHATEVER happened, you were going to say you were right and that you knew it all along.

You didn't have the cojones actually to make a prediction, unlike many of us, and unlike many conservatives. And now you're trying to back away from even the chickensh** prediction that you did make.

A carnival fun ride doesn't spin as much as you do.

Clearly, you won't be trying out for the lead in Captains Courageous any time soon.

Actually, it's a testament to Santorum that he ever got elected in PA at all.

At least your opinions of others are based on something concrete.

They aren't opinions of anyone in particular, just a general perspective of each party regarding the level of whining and complaining, based on my observations. Nothing wrong with that.

Just as there's nothing wrong with Quirt's opinion that GOPers froth at the mouth more...whatever that means. ;)

Not that this matters any, but I thought I'd bring this up.

In the American political spectrum, the word "liberal" is often tied to phrases like "favoring reform", "desires change", etc. The word "conservative", on the other hand, brings to mind "limiting change", "desire to keep existing conditions", etc.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Well slap yourself on the back and eat some more boogers, Karnak! You've missed a little fact though......

[kerry mode]I voted for it before I voted against it[/kerry mode]

That's right, Karnak - weeks before your little poll, I had already stated my position - that the democrats would win, and that the damage they will do in the next 2 years will be immeasurable.

I just love f*cking with you liberals. You're so blind.......

Yep. As predicted, you go back to one of several different very general predictions, pick the one that is closest to reality, and then tell everyone how you knew it all along.

Edit -- whoops, I forgot part of the formula. Declare how all the contrary predictions and whooping were just a big joke.

Because it isn't imaginable that Larry could be wrong.

Erm, no Larry. All I've ever seen you post on the subject was that the Dems were in for a rude shock because the Pubs were going to keep the majority all the way around.

If you posted otherwirse, gimme a link.

After this election I foresee a wave of femininity sweeping across the country, all the men will become more womanly,

Clearly!!!

Ivory even bought a hybrid!

I hinted the day before -- the election had nothing to do with it.

By definition those who vote Conservative are more manly men. Even the women are more manly, but in a feminine, attractive kind of way, obviously they're still womanly women, but in a manly kind of way.

Conservatives like to hunt, fish, gamble, drink hard liquor without umbrellas in the glass, they'll spit and swear (but not at women), and generally look a lot like Clint Eastwood just before he painted the entire town red and killed all the bad guys.

Well, except for that Foley bloke, but he was a closet Liberal. Oh, and that other guy that just got caught buying meth.

After this election I foresee a wave of femininity sweeping across the country, all the men will become more womanly, and strangely enough all the women will become manly, but in a hectoring, strident kind of way reminiscent of a fish-wife, or possible Anne Coulter, except obviously she's not a feminist, she just gets tons of money after being empowered by all the womens-libbers she scorns and derides so much. A bit like Boadicea, but without the blue paint or the disembowelling Romans.

My mind keeps wandering....

sounds like you're looking forward to it! - is there something you need to tell us?

Maybe we conservatives are cut from sterner cloth...

In some cases, yes. In some cases, no. In some, cases certifiable. In your case, it looks like sour grapes, but enjoy the illusions.

Some people went off last time to make their own forum away form the OCR? So what? It's a free country.

Quirt's right, btw, the Dems won - not the liberals. They - the Dems - must be made of pretty stern stuff becasue they came back this time, and won big.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D
