Hey Larry, you were wrong about the election. The imperial presidency of George W. Bush is wimpering to an end.

Listen, what happened to all those posts where you predicted the Dems would lose big time and went into your "BAAAHAAAWWAAA" thing. I can't find them. You didn't edit them post election did you?

There's one in the election predictions thread, and one over at WTF. Both were written to give him lots and lots of wiggle room.

I didn't delete anything, I've been too busy the last several days to be here.

As for the election, I knew the democrats would win. I just wanted to f*ck with all you left wing fruitcakes.

As predicted, Larry's response was "I knew it all along". No wonder he likes Bush so much ... they are both pathologically unable to admit that they were wrong.

Hey, I was wrong, and I admit it. I was too pessimistic.

Learn to admit that you were wrong, Larry. It's a liberating feeling.

I was wrong too. I thought the dems would only pick up about 22 seats in the House.

Jack, dude, try to take it easy, man.

Saying "Hey Larry, You're wrong!" is like saying "Hey George W. [or Dick or Rummy], You're wrong!"

No need to take it too seriously.

I think about the funniest thing I've heard in days is having Quirt lecture me on how liberating it is to admit being wrong. That's a hoot, Quirt. You couldn't admit you were wrong if your life depended on it.

Anyone paying attention could see the democrats were going to benefit from the public anger at the republicans. The dems shouldn't get too caught up in talking about a "mandate from the public" - they didn't win, the republicans lost. Big difference.

Now, we've got to figure out a way to survive the next two years as the democrats show the public what a massive mistake they've made. Raise minimum wage - shutter small businesses from one end of the country to the other. Unemployment will rise, tax collections will drop, the dems will raise taxes, more unemployment, less taxes collected....... it's going to be a mess.

But America asked for it, so they'll get it. One big benefit from it all..... modern liberalism *is* a mental disease. Now, those who don't believe me are going to get to see just how bad the disease really is.

Spinning like a top, Larry. If I were you, I'd worry about seeing another Republican majority in the House during your lifetime. It might not happen.

I will also admit I was wrong. I based my feelings mostly on 1) the strength of incumbency and 2) doubt about the polls. It would certainly seem that the polls were actually quite accurate. I thought I wouldn't be surprised by any outcome and although this wasn't Chris Matthews' "wipeout" I do find myself taken aback. There will be a lot of analysis (and I have yet to see any that I can trust) but I think I would have to agree that this is a great Democrat victory. It leaves me very concerned about the fortitude of our nation against the threat of Islamic fanaticism. It will be interesting to see how the Dem's spend their "political capital".

um, you know this tends to happen in the last two years of a second-term president. do you remember the last time?

Incrediby amusing that you say that I never admit that I'm wrong. Did you even read the post you are responding to? Let me help you:

Yes it will, and I hope they have the sense to look forward (after Rummey is gone, that is).

Can someone sum up in a nutshell (for non-Americans) what all this means?

The only thing they can do that will help is turn back the clock and prevent Bush's Iraq War.

The Republicans were in control of both houses of congress (House of Representatives and the Senate) and the presidency. The public was sick of it, mostly about the handling of the Iraq War, and voted in enough Democrats to become the majority party in the House and, most likely, in the Senate as well. Bush is still president, but he faces opposition for the final two years of his presidency. Beyond that, it's anybody's guess what all this means.
