Late night at the Keeter Center kitchen, where we (students) make the food for Dobyn's Dining Hall. I usually work hotline (food, not phones), but I moved to help out in dishpit after closing down the line. We were running the cast iron burners from the stove through the dish washer and 180 degree water. I was pulling them off as they came out, and I said something like "Holy heck, that's hot!" Josh, who is the regular dish guy, jumped on that and said, "You've got girly hands, man." Me: "No, I don't." Josh: "Yes, you do. Things you think are hot are just warm. That's girly. Me, I've got man hands." Me: "Congratulations, why don't you write home about it?" Why is a supposed weakness in a man construed as feminin? (sp? it's late. . .) Why is it ok for women to have soft hands, and write poetry and watch the stars, and if you admit to crying during a movie or book people start backing away from you? Why is guys hugging guys thought of as gay, and why do americans think you're gay if you don't have a girlfriend? Why is it that no one seems able to fathom a purely platonic but very close relationship between a girl and a guy? I actually got called retarded for doing homework a few days ago. People seem to take pride in low grades and not doing assignments. Is it just this school or are the young scholars of this nation more interested in the latest fads than furthering their education and lives? I don't have a single class this semester that is even making me think. Of course, they're all freshman classes, but you'd think that one of them would express joy in the subject they are teaching. One of my classes, I haven't listened to a single lecture because I'm always too busy sleeping. I have a 99.7 in that class. Or maybe I'm just tired. I think I'll go to bed. I work the 6 am shift . . . today. Schindler |

Yeah, don't be a gay. Don't do girly stuff. I hope they tease the hell out of you, so you learn how to be a REAL man! And don't do homework either. That's for nerds and gays. |
