I accepted a new job

If you recall, I am a co-owner in a small business that I started before having kids. Now I have a 5 year old and a 7 year old, and more work at the company than we know what to do with. It just doesn't work with young children. I spent the better part of 18 months turning the business around from near death. We now need to double our staff in 3 months or less. A good time for me to cash out.

I asked advice here back in June or July...finally things have sorted themselves out. I've accepted a position at a secure DOE lab as a technology advisor. No laptop, no work can go out the door, 9/80 work schedule and limited hours. And it is 2 miles from my house and has a 60 year history of stable employment.

I feel like a tremendous weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I'm passing on a potential big payday, but there will be time for that in the future. I should walk away debt free and with the girls college educations funded...that's a fair trade. :hat:

Good for you, and congratulations. You won't regret having more time with your kids. It goes so fast. And those are hours you can never, ever get a second chance at.

Mazel 'Tov! You did well. Time away from the job is time well spent, be it with the family, in solitude, or whatever. If you can suit your lifestyle and, more importantly, care for your family, you've made the right decision.

Wonderful! Did they come around on the vacation time for you? Regardless, seems like a great choice -- nothing more important than time with the family!

Congrats, NY.

I was going to ask about the vacation thing as well.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Thanks everyone...yes, they came around on the vacation time. Now I just need to get through the security clearance, so I can't start until January or February.

It will be strange having every other Friday free while the girls are in school.

So live your life and live it well.

Congrats!

Can I make a suggestion on the every other Friday? Pick the girls up from school and have some event.. ice cream, a burger and fries, a park, anything.. that you do with them. They'll always remember it, and you will hear the most amazing things that they might never tell you during the routine at home.

NY,

I'm happy for you congrats and all of that--on most counts I'd say building your own business is/was the way to go.

But if you say this is the way to go for you--God bless you.
