I'm curious. I've got a few friends who are gay or lesbian, but as a percentage of the population, gays seem to be a very very small minority, but the entertainment industry seems to have tons of them. Why is that? Any insight or theories? |

Maybe we're more creative. Or perhaps it stems from being in the closet for so long that they find different ways of expressing themselves. I think it is more acceptable for an entertainer or artist to be gay than say a CEO of a bank. Heck, we see what it is like for gay politicians.

Frank, I've thought about this before. My conclusion is that in general women are more creative, in touch with the artistic side of life, more involved with emotions. And therefore gay men also have a relatively higher level of "feminism" in them and accordingly are more likely to be in touch with the artistic side of life like women are in general. Obviously this just generally speaking. Almost every guy on this board is straight and we all play the piano and generally are more in touch with "art" than the average man. Anyway...that's my thinking. |

My response was really only limited to gay men, sorry. As far as lesbians and other forms of homosexuality, generally I think homosexuals are more in touch (or put more emphasis) in emotions, looking deeper into things, etc...and accordingly more creative or at least willing to invest time and interest into creative arts. |

Or maybe there are many gays in the acting profession because like being gay...they like attention! ![]()

*chuckling* I've played trumpet since the fifth grade, played guitar and sang lead vocal in a rock band, and I play piano, write poetry, and I'm a pretty good landscaper, sketch artist, and interior designer, but... I'm only moderately happy. ![]() Maybe it's just that society still makes too big of a deal over sexual orientation, and still makes too big of a deal over "sell-ebrities," so it seems like there are a lot more gays in the entertainment industry than in other sectors... Pondering.... |

I wonder if this is a chicken and egg thing. Could it be that gays feel comfortable going into those fields because others are already there? Only when gay's access to all fields matches the access enjoyed by brown-haired people will we find out. Some people think gays have a "purpose". Not to reproduce but to improve the quality of the lives of those who do. Clothing, hair styling, literature, art, music, entertainment, interior design, Internet Forum Geniuses. ![]() Interesting. Who knows?

Maybe there are lots of gay people in other fields, too -- it's just that the news reporters only really pester the famous people? |

There's not that many gays among professional musicians. A lot of gay amateur musicians, but very few among professionals. |
