CBGB's closes after tonight.

(And Paul Simon just turned 65.)

Sheesh we're getting old.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

I've been looking at pics of the inside of CBGB on Photobucket.. we had a club just like it in Newport, KY, called the Jockey Club. It was too fun, and had quite the sordid past before it became THE punk/alt/whathave you bar in the late 70's, early 80's. The one in San Diego was called the Zebra Club. Also fun.

Did you go much, Jon? I somehow find it difficult to imagine you slamming in tghe pit.

I went in the 90s, but it already wasn't the same by then.

Patti Smith lives across the street from my office. She looks like she could use a brush occasionally.

I played at CBGBs many times in the late 80s into the 90s. It was our home base - the place with the best vibe and sound system in town. I wish we'd been signed out of there, but it didn't happen. We played the Rodeo Bar (I think that's what it was called) in Burbank to a "crowd" of about 4, 2 of whom were girlfriends and the other 2 A&R execs. We had a deal within a couple of weeks.

If you're wondering about the band name, check out the screen name.

89, 89, 89 - What are we going to do with you? CBGB is short for Country, Bluegrass, Blues. The entire acronym is CBGB & OMFUG, or Country, Bluegrass, Blues and Other Music For Uplifting Gormandizers. Sheesh. Where have you been? Virginia or something?

CBGBs was the premiere punk club in NY for a long time, which was where it got famous.

Speaking of bluegrass, I'm going to see the Jerry Douglas Band, backup act for Paul Simon, Monday night. Jerry Douglas is maybe the top dobro player around. Should be a great show, althogh I'm most excited about Paul Simon.
