HOLY CARP!!!

I had just done a furniture oreder and tried to serve a massive que of customers as quick (yet nicely) as possible and was about to have a mini stress when suddenly the store just got really empty. (It's funny how shops do that, isn't it? Packed one minute and dead the next.) So when it was quiet, this man came to the till with a ginger and peach scented candle and he asked me... 'Are you an affiliate of Pier 1 in America?' and i told him that 'Yes, we are owned by the same company.' And i got chatting to him while i was serving him (there were no other customers in the store so i had no reason to rush) and he was so cool! Turns out he was born in Canada but was living in America and had come over on holiday. He was buying pressents to take back home for people and we both thought it was funny that he was buying the same candles that he could get in America, just because they were in England and he couldn't think of anything else! He was just one of those really cool, interesting people. We chatted for about 5 minutes and he told me abit about himself, where he was from (i asked because he didn't sound Canadian), and just had a bit of a natter. It was wonderful. This is exactly why i love my job so much (well, that and the apron ). Some of the people you meet are so interesting, with such unexpected stories to tell, they really brighten up your day. x |

Ax! I was at work! I'm far too professional to notice things like that when i am working!! ( )But seriously, no, i wasn't into him. I mean, he was alright looking but he wasn't my type. Besides, i already have my own ball and chain. ![]() He was just so interesting and different and lovely. ![]() x |

MP, I remember working retail and I enjoyed it for just those reasons. You DO meet a lot of interesting people. I loved working retail. |

Nice story, mp. I've worked with the public for many years, and found it was something I loved, for that very reason. Every time you get to meet some interesting person, it makes up for all the knobhead dorks that you will, unfortunately, also have to deal with. Some of my favourites are older folk; they often have some amazing stories to tell. |
