Sudoku?

Does anybody else like doing these puzzles? I bought a book recently when I was working away, and I find them strangely compelling. I've always been hopeless at crosswords, I'm more of a numbers guy, and I find the kind of logical analysis required to complete a moderate Sudoko puzzle fascinating.

I also like shouting AwwwwwwwwSUDOKU! when I finish one, in a manner reminiscent of an extra from Tora Tora Tora, much to my own amusement and everybody else's extreme annoyance.

love em

We have a little handheld electronic Soduko thing that was really inexpensive (Walmart or Target, I think) that keeps our kids (and me) busy on car trips.

You probably need to do the kamikaze war-cry. That never gets old. I'd also suggest doing that just as a patient has his pre-op injection as a way of lightening the atmosphere.

For some reason, I have no desire to learn to do them. I'd rather read a book.

I thoroughly enjoy crosswords (especially clever ones like the New York Times (i.e. 7 letter review of "I am a Camera." Answer: "No Leica"), but fail miserably at word-scramble games like text-twist or Jumble. It must be because, though I have a good mind for trivia, there's not a creative bone in my body.

I've always wanted to be able to do crosswords, but I find them so frustrating, I can never see the word-play clues like the camera one above. It's odd, because I'm actually quite good with word-plays and logic and what-not, but I JUST CAN'T DO DAMN CROSSWORDS!!!!!

Not that I'm bitter.

I am a word puzzle guy as well. My mathematical aptitude is perfectly suitable for financial transactions and the stuff of a life, but if everyone was like me in that respect we'd never have made it to the moon.

But I would not recommend kamikaze war cries on airplanes these days.

(obligatory crossword puzzle joke)

A shy gentleman was preparing to board a plane when he heard that the Pope was on the same flight.
"This is exciting," thought the gentleman. "I've always been a big fan of the Pope. Perhaps I'll be able to see him in person."

Imagine his surprise when the Pope sat down in the seat next to him for the flight. Still, the gentleman was too shy to speak to the Pontiff. Shortly after take-off, the Pope began a crossword puzzle.

"This is fantastic," thought the gentleman. "I'm really good at crosswords. Perhaps, if the Pope gets stuck, he'll ask me for assistance."

Almost immediately, the Pope turned to the gentleman and said, "Excuse me, but do you know a four letter word referring to a woman that ends with the letters 'u-n-t?'"

Only one word leapt to mind. "My goodness," thought the gentleman, "I can't tell the Pope that. There must be another word."

The gentleman thought for quite a while, then it hit him. Turning to the pope, the gentleman said, "I think the word you're looking for is 'aunt'".

"Of course," said the Pope. "Do you have an eraser?"

I was once addicted to Sudoku puzzles. Now I seem to have lost interest. Once you learn how to solve them they become methodical.

I like doing them but I don't have time anymore. Over the summer I did lots of them though.

I'm with George - I'd rather read a book.

I do see them more and more on planes and on the subway, though. Seems like its been getting popular.

In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

89th, I LOVE your avatar! I hope you are keeping them all.

As for those number puzzles......I tried one once when all the fuss started, but quickly started asking myself, 'why am I doing this?' and haven't picked one up since. Not a crossword puzzle fan either; I guess I just don't get a sense of satisfaction by solving them. Also, I suck at them. :P
