It has to go up, at least until a certain point. You aren't born with a 130 IQ.

I was. But it did, in fact, go up. I'm on the cerebral autobahn.

You might be on the autobahn, but you've got to face facts, Mik, you're that stinky dead black and white animal that makes everyone turn on the 'circulate air' button.

Kenny, typically the best type of intelligence comes from creative people.

That's when you get Beethoven, Edison, Da Vinci. No one really cares about the kid who can do extreme math in his head instantly. It's fun to see, but unless he advances mathematics with his mind, it's just circus tricks.

I think creativity is the highest point of intelligence. Creating something from nothing, convincingly, requires a lot of brain power.

Interesting.

When I was growing up the idea was that Mozart transcribed what God put into his head- he was such a genius that it was pure inspiration. There's been a new biography written disputing this view. Now a view is developing that he just worked hard.

Either extreme would be wrong but I have more trouble thinking of the Mozart who packed his luch box and off he went to the gem mine whistling while he worked. No.

Many natural abilities is putting it mildly.

Ironically, the 1% inspiration is the most important part. Without that, you can work 300000000% and never do anything.

Work is important if you have something to work with. If not, then you can be lazy because it does not matter much anyway! Just enjoy life.

I have a friend who I have not seen for going on fifteen years and talk to by email almost everyday. He's very intelligent. He's a poet. He has a PhD. Etc. He tells me artists have to be true to their art and this is incompatible with making money. He tells me about Gertrude Stein. Etc. I told him- I'm not as intelligent as her. Leave me alone.

I kind of rate artistic genius somehow higher than intellectual genius but that's probably because i understand the creative side much less (how the fsk you guys compose these amazing pieces totally escapes me), but it seems a bit dodgey to just re-lable everything under the sun 'intelligence', i think artistic creativity is it's own category, and a worwhile category it is, but i'm not convinced it's quite the same as "intelligence" in it's commonly understood form. (though i suppose you would expect a certain degree of overlap).

Truth is, you need everything to come together to "make it."

Assigning percentages to components is bogus -- you need ALL the components.

He is neither - he's a savant.

Genius is not only in execution, but the deep understanding involved with creativity and humanity. A savant cannot be a genius like this, aside from the technical abilities.
