My friend has been in a relationship with his girlfriend for a few years. (More than 3) He does not really like her, but feels sorry for her. He cheats, and she is extremely suspicious of him - never trusting what he says, and calling constantly. He has tried to end it before, but she is very emotional and clingy, and won't hear of it. She'll come crying and threaten to do bad things to herself if he says it is over. It's very unhealthy, and it is very hard for him to just say "enough" and let it go - even if he does not like her much, it will be a lot of trouble. Any advice I can give him? |

Your friend is a major wimp and wants to do it without being responsible for it. |

Just leave. Just leave. Just leave. Learning how to get out of a relationship is an *eeeeeeeeessential* skill!!!!!!! Took me 2 years to get out of my 13-year relationship. (I didn't want to hurt his feelings.) Never again. Just leave and deal with the fall out. In time it will get easier. |

Yes, he's a wimp. He is about as unhappy as you can be. In a strange way, he likes the utility she provides - like the occasional cooking or presents, but he has a hard time moving away from her - she just is too attached. |

This is simply an issue that can be resolved through the application of something called a spine. |

There are zillions of unhappy couples locked together with their crap. He and she must figure this out on their own in their own time - which may mean never. |

She's fairly crazy. Well, I guess all women are crazy. How does he deal with the fallout? She will probably threaten to hurt herself, go to his house crying, the works. I am not so sure he is emotionally stable enough to handle it. |

Crash, you keep buying into the trap.. he DOESN'T deal with the fallout.. SHE does. That's how it works. I assure you that if SHE wanted to leave him, she'd do so without compunction or hesitation. |

Yeah. She's caught him cheating more than once - and everything was in the open. She put up with it, and now it is even worse. |

You keep complicating this.. all he needs to do is not have anything to DO with her anymore. That is how breakups work. |

DON'T LET HER IN. DON'T BE HOME. IF YOU ARE HOME DON'T ANSWER THE DOOR. Look, Crash.. there is no nice way to do this. Breaking up with someone is not nice. That's teh way it is. Someone get's hurt. Just wait.. it will happen to you... then you will know. |

Yeah, I will tell him to stop being a wimp. He will say "Well, I can't really do anything". And I will say, JUST DO IT MOFO. |

You tell the b***h to hit the road! I’ve had to do it a number of times. Guess what? It does work. This guy’s problem is that he needs her, that’s his problem. I hope it isn’t yours. |

In what ways would he need her, that override the unhealthy nature of his relationship? |

Now you may have consequences.. such as having 'F*** YOU ____(your name here)____ scratched into the side of your car when she comes by and finds you with your new girlfriend... |

Mmmmmmm, pie!

Crash, I once had a girl threaten to kill herself if I stopped seeing her after just two dates. I got her a knife and said "Ok, I want to watch". She just threw the knife down and cursed. |

David ran into an interesting idea, the "he needs her" one. Maybe we can go a little bit further into that? I feel there may be some answers there. |

Heh, oddly enough - he did try to drop her off on me. I don't want it though, not only is she BONKERS, but she just does not make my ding ding dong sing all that much, to be direct. |

You aren't supposed to sing through it, Crash. You're supposed to make it do pushups til it pukes. |
