Does anyone else hate politics?

It really does not interest me one bit. If it was really about good things - I'd be interested. But there is such a high level of insincere bullcrap that goes on, from all sides, that is indeed laughable.

I find many things in life funny - but when people talk about politics, especially when they are on different sides - it's a different type of funny.

I like to know what is going on in the world, of course- but the political garbage that people talk about, both in the real world and on this forum, is very self defeating and just goes around in an endless circle.

Here's what you will learn as you grow older...

Politics is how power is applied. Therefore, it is important. Those who know, participate, and try to bend political will to what they believe is best. Those who don't, wonder what hit them.

But he has a point here.

The discussions here go round and round and never change anybody's mind about what they think is right.

They also in turn tend to bring out the nasty in people, and although I admit it's good popcorn for a while, it ends up making the contenders look bad when I'm sure in real life they're fine people.

So I stay away from these hot threads. After all, image is everything. :excited:

Au contraire, mon ami. Sorry, I slipped into some vernaculars for a minute there.

The older I get, the more I see that political involvement is pretty much a total waste of time. Government of the people, by the knobheads, for the knobheads. Of course, I'm not even allowed to take part over here, so it's all a bit academic anyway. It can make for interesting spectator sport. NASCAR crossed with bullfighting crossed with WWF crossed with the ancient art of dwarf tossing.

Admittedly, I do wonder what hit me on a frighteningly regular basis. Normally, it's Mrs. D'Oh.

I'm coming over to Crash's way of thinking with every passing year. I'm hoping for lucid lesbian dreams quite shortly.

Politics is a dirty, slimy process, from practically dog-catcher level all the way up. I'm fed up with all the negative campaigning - I can go for days without seeing a single ad that just touts the candidate's issues and strengths. It's really sickening.

But it beats the daylights out of the only two alternatives - the elimination of democracy, or a nanny-state overmoderation of the electoral process that makes it worthless. As Jolly said, it's how power is determined. And the best you can do is to realize it for the nasty smelling tool that it is, and participate in the process in order to get into power those whose views align with your own more closely than the opponent. It's nothing more, nothing less. Pay attention to the issues, Figure out where the candidates stand, hold your nose, and vote for the one closest to your own thoughts.

Well....tell ya what we'll do....

As soon as you are eligible for citizenship, I'm all in favor of you becoming another fine citizen of the Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave.

Of course, you'll have to drink your beer chilled to 34 degrees farenheit, pick a favorite NFL team, and buy a gun....

The beer is presumably there to take my mind off the fact that a game with 20 minutes of action goes on for about 5 hours, and the gun is necessary in case the effects of the beer wear off.

I often get tired of politics, and I've only been "in the game" (i.e. debating) for a couple years now...

It's really a futile environment, but it unfortunately is where most of the major society shifts come from, and as much as I resist it sometimes, I find it oddly addicting.

Why? It interests me a lot. I learn new things every day. And it determines the fate of the world. So it's kind of important.

I hate politics too. Tonight there was an election commerical by our governor.

"Moving our state forward!" and it talked about affordable housing and homelessness under our governor.

Housing prices here have almost tripled in five years (!), the city of Honolulu is selling its affordable housing, the number of homeless people has doubled (at least- there's no way to exactly know).

The reason I often get tired of it, is because realistically as a private citizen, I really can't affect anything even though I might debate an issue for years and years.

I will vote though - that's by far the most important thing you can do.

Good for you. If all 15 yr olds were interested in politics, interested in learning new things, interested in the whole world, not just their corner of it; we'd have some intelligent voters when they come of age.
