What's the most powerful way to influence?; Voting or spending money?

As a US citizen, I enjoy our rights and freedoms.

This question arose from a conversation with a friend a few weeks ago. I was encouraging him to vote in the primary election. He said he would, but that his most important vote was the way he chooses to spend his money. I asked him to explain, and he said that in our capitalistic society, the spending habits of US citizens had more to do with the way the world works that did the votes cast in elections.

Interesting premise...no?

So what is the most influential way we "vote"?
