When people start admitting there was a mistake made, things will change for the better. Here's what John Edwards has to say about the war and the decision congress made to enterinto it. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...5111101623.html BTW Washington Post Article....not some far-left carp. |

How many threads are you going to start with this same stale article? |
|
"Any man who would make an X rated movie should be forced to take his daughter to see it". - John Wayne There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it". Sorry... I had to go back and edit that link. The first time it was to the same "stale" article. I am not researching too long before posting links...but I will check now to make sure that they are fairly current. |

Why don't you just google up "Iraq War" and post everything that starts out negatively? |

I'm trying! As some of you know, I am attempting to add some balance to this freakishly right-wing forum. The feeling I had yesterday was that I was being roasted up and down for my (middle of the road) viewpoints. When I go to a new topic and see that everyone else is posting up links to other websites, I just followed suit. If I come here and read about how great George Bush is, how great our economy is, and that I am an idiot for thinking otherwise...well...it just gets me going, that's all. So my posts today are in reaction to the carp that went on yesterday.

And you think that posting Edwards' backpedaling to try to position himself for another presidential bid in 2008 is going to add balance? I believe it simply shows an utter lack of perception. Edwards is a non-entity after his 'I am my own man.. the little guy' run in the 2004 primaries follwed by his 'I am John Kerry's lap dog.. see how brown my nose is?' run in the general election. His 15 minutes was up two years ago. Look up 'has-been' in the dictionary. You will find his picture there. |

I don't think that the right way to go about "balancing out" those who are pretty far off to the right here is to post loads of far-left carp. I don't think any balancing out needs to be done, frankly. And I'm hard-pressed to find much that either extreme is right about. Now, about the article: I would like to see 372 more of these (the remaining Congressmen who voted in favor of the war). It's about three years overdue. This is exactly what JB and I were saying in the Al-Qaeda/Iraq thread - Congress shouldn't get a free pass on Iraq. Mik - you are absolutely unbelievable. A high-profile Dem like Edwards admits he was wrong about Iraq and you claim he's backpedaling for 2008. He is proving he actually has some backbone and is willing to admit a mistake. Show me the last time a President admitted he made a mistake and you'll show me Bill Clinton. |

Why am I unbelieveable? Edwards seduced much of the electorate in the primaries with his 'self-made-man' hogwash, only to trash every position he held once he got the VP spot and took on the role of Kerry's attack dog. He has no convictions, no credibility and no backbone.. just a strong desire to see himself elected. Ben, you are young, and evidently naive. Let's see.. it is the very beginnning of the jockeying for the 2008 primaries, and here comes John Edwards again 'coming clean' about his mistakes. Gee, Ben.. do you suppose it is that he has the courage of his convictions or that he's positioning himself? Please. He's just aligning himself with the party line. And he's not a 'high-profile' Dem.. he's a washed up has-been who is out of office. The unbelieveable one is John Edwards, whose star has already risen only to fall again.. he's the only one who doesn't realize it. |

Okay, you think I'm naive, and I think you're cynical... This situation is funny but I'm not sure why. We'll see what happens between now and 2008. I like him as a candidate and I definitely like him a lot better than Hillary. I don't know a lot about Biden. And the GOP nominee remains a mystery... |

Edwards would give Bill Clinton a Lewinski if he thought it would get him into office. The man has all the depth of a potato chip, and about as many convictions. He has no principles, just a desire to hold office. |

I am not at all cynical, Ben. Quite the opposite. What I do have is enough years observing American politics to assess what I see and read. You'll get there too. There is a marked difference between perception and cynicism. Were I a cynic, I would suppport NO political party. (And we all know THAT's not true, now don't we? )

John Edwards? He's as boring as watching paint dry and a talented 11th grader could have written a more coherent article. Now I think it's popular to be against the war- watch me write an article. Let's take troops away- this will solve everything. A piece of cardboard would make a better president than John Edwards. ![]() |
