Following Dewey's approach for at least a few minutes, let me just say, please don't interpret my silence as a concession.

I just took it as a sign that you'd bludgeoned your computer.

I'd prefer it to all stop. I see neither reason nor utility in resorting to "trash talk".

Why not? You do the same for the Bush Administration.

If this is even remotely true, I won't speak to you in a zillion years !

I hate the Dale Carnegie *people*. They are just used cars dealers in disguise (or former piano dealers, who can tell the difference ? )

I think every word under the sun has its appropriate time and place

Reverend, Who created the words ? Are the words the creation of some Superior Creator or are they the result of a long evolutionary process ? What is your stand on this topic, father ?

Since this is not a poll about enacting any rules but simply about do you want the trash talk to stop, the conclusion seems to be that the voting majority actually prefers the aggression and negativity.

Why anyone would prefer to steep themselves in so much negativity is beyond me, but I guess it might explain a few things about underlying unhappiness and the readiness to assign fault to others.

Perhaps I have really come to the wrong place.

While the voting majority does seem to prefer aggression and negativity displayed through trash talk, there are still quite a few of us that don't enjoy it and seem to want to rise above it.

IMHO that's a good thing.

By all means, let this poll determine whether you like the message board rather than ... whether you actually like the message board. It's the mature thing to do.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

I agree. As the victim of such talk in the past--I think it should all cease immediately.

Hay, we know who the trash talkers are around here. They do their little routines and then they apologize. They have a good time. We have a good time. Then we all move on.

Can life get any sweeter?

No we're not, or at least you aren't, Tom. You're just one great big open sore full of pus, and if you weren't so disgusting, I'd grab your head, twist it off like the cap on a cheap bottle of wine, and crap down your neck.

Well Dewey,

Laugh it up Jolly.

You really think I based my comments strictly on the poll rather than the general tone here?

You really think I'm that stupid and shallow?

Fine.

There's a different between a joke and a poke. There's a difference between a poke and an insult. There's a difference between an insult and a pile-on.

I can take your comment TomK as a joke. And an apt poke at the appropriate time can spice up conversation.

From Horace I get an insult to my intelligence, from Jolly a pile-on. Pretty much the kind of crap that motivated this thread to be started in the first place.

Well. It looks as if the people who don't appreciate the trash talk have the majority. Very interesting.

I don't much care who insults who. People seem to be able to take care of themselves and are able to give as good as they get. I just hate to see any more people leave. Has anyone else noticed that we haven't seen Nina since the last fiasco. Another lost member. A good honest soul. Does someone need to go to the members list and point out all the decent, smart, honest people we've lost because of the nastiness and ugliness.

Does it always have to be blamed on Larry? Larry's rarely here. And we've seen uglier.

And as for the cursing I believe that's gotten worse. I don't much care if I am considered a "schoolmarm" but the language around here was getting pretty filthy. I know peoples buttons get pushed. And we all lose our tempers. But when it was used, someone (not only me but Penny) would point it out, the people would apologize for the filthy language, feel bad about it, delete it, and we'd forgive them and move on.

And now we're missing Nina. I don't know who's the blame for that but IMHO Nina was great. Maybe someday she'll come back. I doubt it. She's been posting in WTF pretty regularly but not nada here. Maybe I'm reading something into it that's not there. But I doubt it.
