That's either a joke or you hate France. The message of hate is hard to miss...that's why I hope it was a joke. Because the French people I have met are pretty darn nice. |

'Twas a joke, Hobie. Sorry if it didn't come across that way. It's something that's going around in e-mails. Although I am a self-described liberal, my sense of humor is not politically correct. |

Quirt Thanks...I'm a little jumpy on this forum right now... I am realizing that what I thought was a loose-knit group of musicians isn't that at all. Most musicians I hang with are fairly liberal. Does anyone here play piano? See, I came here from PW. I thought there was some connection to music we all shared. But this is more of a political forum, and a right-wing one at that. No love-fest for me here! Thanks for your clarification, because I am pretty sick of people hating each other. |

Actually, Hobie, music is a unifying element here. Larry, for example, is quite a talented musician (he's put MP3 clips up on the board before). Most of the people here play piano, or are very knowledgeable about music in some other way. I'm just an adult beginner, myself. I found this forum in a previous incarnation when shopping for a piano for my kids, at the urging of their teacher. Since I was buying them a piano, and since I'd always wanted to take lessons, I've started. This is just the rant forum that started on the old Piano World but was eventually chopped off by the administrator. So we moved here and continued the ranting. I tend to think it tilts politically a bit to the right, but there's some good left side representation too. Take it for what it's worth, and don't let it drive you crazy. The yelling around here seems mostly to be alpha personalities blowing off steam. |

Anybody feeling brave enough to start an ode to America? Normally, I'm far too polite, as I'm sure you've all noticed, since I'm an honoured guest here, and it's considered rude to insult the furniture when visiting the nouveau-riche relatives. I leave for the UK tomorrow, so I reckon you're fair game for a week.

It is Rowan Atkinson (Black Adder) demonstrating his unsuitability for going over the top. |

Hobie, There are a lot of liberal folks here. It's just that there are more really vocal conservative folks than there are vocal liberal foks. Liberals are still outnumbered, but not by as much as it seems. I suspect that many of us are just tired of being called idiots every time we speak up, so we keep quiet a lot of the time on the political issues. |

Dol, That's not entirely fair. The outspoken liberals do their fare share of calling out what they see as idiocy. Also, there are a number of conservatives who are quite good at holding their tongues in the political debates because of the clear impasse that exists here in regard to our conflicting world views. I am likely one of the most conservative people here (and I am a professional musician, Hobie, artists don't all think alike). I am also happy to try to co-exist with people who are on the other side of politics from me. I just want credit for that

That's true, Deb. There ARE many conservatives on this board who are respectful of others opinions and hold their tongues at times. I don't disagree in the slightest. There are also liberals who get out of hand and call folks to task more often than necessary. I do know, however, that on days when I don't feel like being called brain dead, I don't post in political threads. Period. |
