I hate to think what he's going to start posting as his mental powers begin to wane. Most old people start to lose their inhibitions, which based on previous history is a pretty scary thought.

She retired.

Hadn't heard that.

I did hear that she isn't being disciplined in any way. She'd still be subject to disciplinary sanctions on her record, even if she retired. If the people in charge were outraged about what she'd done.

Y'all wouldn't.

The news media is the realm of the sensational. She tendered her resignation at the last school board meeting and retired with 25 years service.

She still should have disciplinary action entered on her record.

I'm not saying that her pension should be taken away. However odious her behavior, if she worked 25 years, then she earned it.

But she should have that little incident follow her around if she tries to get a new job somewhere.

No doubt to comments of great appreciation for her services.

Driver who seated blacks at back of school bus to retire

COUSHATTA, La. (AP) - A northwestern Louisiana school bus driver who was suspended for seating black children in the back of her bus will be allowed to retire effective Oct. 4.

Deloris Davis, who will have been employed with the Red River Parish School District for 25 years on that date, offered her retirement, through her attorney, in a letter handed to Superintendent Kay Easley minutes before the start of Tuesday night's parish school board meeting meeting.

The board voted 4-3 to accept the retirement.

Iva Richmond, whose 14- and 15-year-old children were on the bus, said last month that her children had ridden with a black bus driver in previous years, but their bus assignment changed this year. When the new school year started, the white driver told them she had assigned them seats, with the black children at the back of the bus.

Richmond said she complained to a local principal, who told the driver that if any children were assigned to seats, all would have to be. The next week, the driver assigned black students to two seats in the back of the bus, Richmond said.

Board attorney Jon Guice said Davis had no record of previous reprimands. He also said that Easley investigated the complaints and believes Davis' actions were not motivated by race. He said Davis contended that the nine black children were the last ones to get on the bus on her route.

Some at the Tuesday meeting were unhappy with the decision to allow Davis to retire. The crowd overflowed the 49-seat meeting room and when the decision was announced to those standing outside, it was met with shouts such as "Fire the superintendent" and "Do we pay for her to retire?"

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

So does this mean she has been doing this for 25 years, and this is the first time anyone's complained about her? Or were these 9 kids her first encounter with non-whites? What a huge step backwards.

I don't know about Red River Parish, but I'm willing to stick my neck out and say her pay would be below $1000/month.

Way below.

Coming from the people who decided that no disciplinary action was necessary, this means a lot to me. I'm all choked up with how unfairly this woman has been maligned. Sniff.

Why should the driver be disciplined if the nine black kids were the last to get on the bus. If the veteran driver of 25 years always organized the seating so that it was filled from front to back I do not see an real issue here. The driver's always Captain of the ship.

Uh, no. Not everything in the world operates by a military model. A school bus is not a naval vessel off the coast of Lebanon.

Perhaps you might quote any administrative procedure manual, in the U.S. or Canada, that says that the bus driver of a school bus is captain of the ship, or has ultimate authority, or anything like that. To the best of my knowledge, that's not true anywhere. Not even in the rural environs of our northern neighbors.

Legally speaking, however, they do have the same responsibility and liability as other school employees , when entrusted with the care of children.

That does give them a bit more power than the average bear.

I think you missed the part - in one of the articles - that the 9 kids were assigned to two bus seats at the very back.
