HOLY CARP!!!
|
When I was a kid, I generally wasn't allowed to have pop. The exception to the rule was pizza night, when my dad would buy Orange Crush for me. To this day, when eating pizza, I'll often get cravings for orange pop. And on the odd occurance that I have orange pop on its own, I always end up craving pizza. A related one - my grandmother always had Sprite at her house, and so when I was there I used to be allowed to have a glass of it. I never drank it otherwise, and don't drink it as an adult. But on the very rare occasion that I do have it, I'm reminded of sitting in my grandmother's kitchen. The memory is so strong it's overwhelming. I'm sure I'm not the only oddball with food associations...share! |

I think I'm the only one who has this association...but anytime I eat an Oreo Cookie(tm), I get a huge craving for some milk. |

If you give 89th a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk. When you give him the milk, he'll probably ask you for a straw. When he's finished, he'll ask for a napkin. Then he'll want to look in a mirror to make sure he doesn't have a milk mustache. When he looks into the mirror, he might notice his hair needs a trim. So he'll probably ask for a pair of scissors. When he's finished giving himself a trim, he'll want a broom to sweep up. He'll start sweeping. He might get carried away and sweep every room in the house. He may even end up washing the floors as well! When he's done, he'll probably want to take a nap. You'll have to fix up a little bed for him with a blanket and a pillow. He'll crawl in, make himself comfortable and fluff the pillow a few times. He'll probably ask you to read him a story. So you'll read to him from one of your books and he'll ask to see the pictures. When he looks at the pictures, he'll get so excited he'll want to draw one of this own. He'll ask for paper and crayons. He'll draw a picture. When the picture is finished, he'll want to sign his name. With a pen. Then he'll want to hang his picture on your refrigerator. Which means he'll need Scotch tape. He'll hang up his drawing and stand back to look at it. Looking at the refrigerator will remind him that he's thirsty. So... he'll ask for a glass of milk. And chances are if he asks for a glass of milk, he's going to want a cookie to go with it. (shamelessly stolen from Laura Joffe Numeroff) |

SO MANY food associations... But one that pops into my mind immediately: The smell of steamed white rice immediately transports me back to family dinners as kid. I can even hear my mom and dad talking to me, and the clink of chopsticks against china bowls. (Cute story, dol! I'm going to read that one to my daughter, and substitute her name! )

It was a confusion of ideas between him and one of the lions he was hunting in Kenya that had caused A. B. Spottsworth to make the obituary column. He thought the lion was dead, and the lion thought it wasn't. - P.G. Wodehouse

There's a Norwegian flatbread thing called "lefse" that my grandmother used to make, and I'm reminded of here in the rare times that I eat it. |

Random FML: Today, I was fired by my boss in front of my coworkers. It would have been nice if I could have left the building before they started celebrating. FML The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

On the rare occassion that I eat crumpets I am always reminded of sitting in my friend Sarah's kitchen. We would always go to her house after school and have crumpets...and sometimes tea. Yum! Having an Indian take-away always reminds me of Tuesday nights when me, my parents, Sarah, and her parents would go to the Shrewsbury Music Hall and watch an opera, panto, or play. We would then get a take-away from Tandoori Kitchen. edit: just thought of a reverse food association...sort of. Whenever I see Harry Potter abbrieviated to HP, I always think of HP sauce... |
