Terri Schiavo; My opinion

My opinion doesn't mean anything- and it never would have meant something. But I've read many threads on Terri Schiavo, and I'd like to add my opinion. I'd like to say it.

I don't really know about the legal arguments in detail, or the political controvery, or the cultural ramifications.

What I want to say is that Terri Schiavo was alive just as much as you are now if you are reading this.

My mother takes care of retarted people and I've met them. They sound like "aaaahhhhaaaahhhhh". But they are alive.

I've met schizophrenics before too- I've met four of them actually. I didn't know this but I learned to tell they were by the stories they told. "The true home of the Hawaiians is San Francisco, Hawaii belongs to the Indians, and they can take it back whenever they want it". And they believe what they're saying. Hawaii is little islands. You meet all kinds of people. I learned that underneath their illness, there is a person.

My brother was in a car accident when he was 16. He was in a coma. I thought he would just wake up. I didn't know that people with traumatic brain injury wake up slowly and agonizingly, and I found out.

I've seen tapes of Terri Schiavo interacting with her family. The comments about how she was brain dead, that she had no idea of her own existence, that she related and responded to nothing are false.

This is a depressing topic but it was either this or Oprah Winfrey, has she become a self-aggrandizing hypocrite. Life's full of choices.

Please, oh please Daniel.. it is not that we are uninterested in your viewpoint, which seems well thought through and based in experience, but please make the life choice not to open this can of worms again.

I beg you.

On the other hand, this one might be appropriate too :

I say we pull the feeding tube from this topic.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

Amazingly enough, I exercised some restraint (no! really!) and chose not to respond to this topic.

Well I'd just like to take this opportunity to point out to Quirt that I addressed Schiavo again already, so he can change his signature line now.

Kenny, I would really appreciate it if in future you didn't post links to my wedding photographs. They are a personal and private thing, and not for general viewing.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

Hey Dan: Please take all those gracious posts from other gracious members as neuralgic reflexes to psychic pain. They can't help themselves, and you can't help that you came late to our gracious community where we've been through five or six heavyweight rounds of the Schiavo Affair (no, not the husband's philandering).

I am with you on this 100%, and I appreciate your opinions, but I too am willing to let it lay.

Yeah folks, don't beat up a new member who wasn't here in the past to experience the joy and love of the Schiavo threads. Daniel, thanks for your personal take. Even though I shuddered at the thought that the post might start it all over again, I appreciated your thoughts, and they very closely parallel my own. Now I'm not gonna talk about it any more.

Daniel if there is one thing that I value here it is a person who speaks his/er mind and heart and shares the *personal* experience that shaped their perspective.

This is exactly what you did.

I placed a high value on YOU being the source of your perspectives.
We all actually are, but many operate as if they are not.
They act like truth is external to them.
(Funny they all *select* which external truth align themselves with, defend and spread.)

Frequently I find these to be the most odious, and ironically, self righteous people.
