HOLY CARP!!!
|
It's a long complicated story, but basically, i got attacked. It seems sureal now... almost like a bad nightmare... I was sunbathing on the border area of the main domain where there are picnic tables and areas of open grass and i was asleep on the grass with two other girl friends of mine and we were woken up by a bunch of about 10-15 guys jumping over us. We were still lying down and they all came and lay down around one of my friends and I and completely surrounded us. They were just pissing about at first, laughing in French and generally taking the piss out of us for not understanding them. Then they all moved in closer and one of them by my friends side tried to kiss her and she pushed him away. One of the four guys sitting around me on my left had his hand on my knee and when i was distracted by pushing him off, another one of them kissed me. Then, when i tried to get him off me, another one put his hands right up my shorts as i was lying there on the floor, still completely surrounded. My friend and i started to scream because we honestly thought we were going to get rapped by them all. They were ignoring the other girl hat was with us and she managed to pull away from them but the two of us couldn't get out from underneath them. Laura and i were screaming our heads off and they must have started to get scared because they ran off, taking my shoes with them. I spent four hours in the station having to make a statement which took so long becuase everything i said had to be translated into french for the police officer. Plus, because as well as theft, it was a sexual assualt on a minor, it took ridiculously long and they asked so many questions. Some of the questions they ask are so cold and direct, I couldn't stop crying and shaking. The thing that pisses me off most about the whole ordeal is that we were on holy ground and there were adults and families sitting at the picnic tables we were near and not one single adult attempted to help us. What sort of world is it were in the company of responsible Catholic adults, no-one gives two sh*ts when someone is trying to rape you? It made me feel sick. The whole day made me feel sick. It put such a sh*tty outlook on the whole trip. x |

That is disturbing. Sorry to hear about your experience. The way you describe it, it sounds like this group has done this before. |

Gosh Caroline, I am SO sorry to hear about your terrible experience! Do not feel ashamed or weak if you need to talk it through with a professional therapist. This can really help a lot of people. I'm sure you can 'tough it out', but that is not necessarily the best thing. You don't want to hold on to bad feelings for an undue amount of time. |

Thankyou everyone for your support. You really are very good friends. ![]() I feel rather distant from it now. I was messed up at the time but now i just feel rather separate from it, which, i guess, is a good thing in most ways. x |

Thanks IT. That is the main 'church' in the Domain in Lourdes. It's called the Rosary Bascillica and is actually two large cathedrals in one. The ower bascillica is that big round bit near the bottom. You see where the stone kind of curves? That is one giant cicular church with huge frescoes of different scenes of Mary on the walls; one in each of those big arches. Then, if you walk along the paths on either side (you can just about make out the path in that picture - it's ontop of those curved arches) it leads you up into the bigger Bascillica. It's incredible... it is so beautiful and moving. You can get lost for hours just sitting and praying in there. The bells of the church go off every 15 minutes (you feel like you going crazy after the first few hours but you get used to it after a while  ) and on every hour, the bells chime out the hymn Ave Maria (i think that's what it was they play.... my memory is already a bit rusty... ).If you look directly under the main Bascillica where those line of trees are, that is where the grotto is whereMary appeared to Bernadette. Then just a bit further along to the right of that (just out of the picture) are the baths where you can go into. I went in them at the beginning of the week and it is FREEEEEEEZING!!!!!! You go into the baths naked (with just a tiny wet white cloth around you) and the water is ridiculously cold. Certianly is an experience though. Anything else? ![]() x |
