Higher paychecks: a left-handed compliment? Aug 11, 10:26 AM (ET) NEW YORK (Reuters) - Left-handed men, often seen as having an advantage over right-handed counterparts in sports like tennis, also enjoy much better paydays, a new study says. Left-handed men with at least some college education earned 15 percent more than similarly educated right-handers, while those who finished college earned about 26 percent more, wrote Christopher S. Ruebeck of Lafayette College, and Joseph Harrington and Robert Moffitt of Johns Hopkins University in a paper published by the National Bureau of Economic Research. There are "several suggestive and economically and statistically significant results that suggest further support for the notion that handedness matters," they wrote. "We do not have a theory that reconciles all of these findings." The researchers did not find a similar effect among women. The data used for the study were hourly earnings taken from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, a set of surveys including individuals aged 14-21 in 1979 who were interviewed every year until 1994 and every other year thereafter. A copy of the working paper can be found at http://papers.nber.org/papers/w12387.pdf |

I have some wild ass completely meaningless guesses about this. Left handed people are probably more prone to having dominant right-brains which means they'll be more "functionally intelligent" in my experience. Left brain is logic and verbal so it can impress people but to actually solve real complex problems a high powered right brain is so essential. I think that's pretty much where working memory and spacial/visual ability reside, not to mention creativity. Functional intelligence is more important than the more restricted intelligence that the left brain provides so it stands to reason that they'd make more money. It's also not something that school filters much based on, so similar levels of education won't imply similar levels of "functional intelligence". The fact that females tend not to have this disparity might be explained by the fact that females naturally have more inter-hemisphere connections than males and so are less prone to being "dominated" by one side of the brain or the other. |
| As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good? | |

Left-handedness is the next evolutionary step for mankind. One day, it won't be tomorrow or the next day, but it will be soon, we will use right-handed people as a substitute for fossil fuel. Currently, we are fattening you up in preparation. Next time you're in a McDonalds 'restaurant' check out everbody there - no lefties. There's a reason for that, and it's not just because we're smarter than you. You might see a couple of people who are having trouble using their hands, but that's another story. You see that McTripleLardburger? That's going to be recycled into my furnace in only a few short months. While America sleeps.... |

My mum used to have a job that is dominated by lefties. In order to do it well, it takes a very keen sense of visual patterns, and everyone in Ontario who was doing that particular job for the Ministry of Natural Resources was left handed. Right handed people, no matter how intelligent or otherwise spacially aware, just didn't seem to have a knack for it. |

I do everything with my right hand except scratch my ass which pretty much says it all about left-handedness. It also explains why they make more money since they tend to be over represented among the clueless "pointy haired boss" management types. |

Also, lefties represent about 30% of the Nobel Laureates in the sciences, despite being only about 10 percent of the population. The real question is whether we play piano any better.

No, I won't. Because I will be scratching my ass with my left hand just like the rest of you all. |
