For those who have pianos and cats in the home, do the cats leave the piano alone? Any episodes of cats scratching the piano legs? |

Our dogs are never allowed in the piano room. Never, ever, from day one. They have never known the freedom to roam the house. They are not outside dogs. When we are away they are locked in the kitchen, with water, toys and a bed. The kitchen has a rolled-out vinyl floor in case of accidents. When we are home they are either in the kitchen or the den with Jose (where his stoopid TV is) or outside. They are small dogs and the kitchen is not so tiny as to be cruel. They run around, play and get exercise in there. I insisted on that compromise when deciding to get dogs. I don't think it is as easy to restrict the free movement of a cat in a house. A cat could jump right over the baby-gate-in-the-doorway that we use. |

We had a tom cat come through our cat flap sometimes when we lived in England. It resulted in a pee-stain on the front of the piano case. Our old cat used to jump up on the bench and walk on the keys quite often. Our current doesn't mess with it much. |
| And how are you today? | |

We mostly just have hair issues. Once they discovered the wool string cover there was no keeping them out of the piano for naps. So now we have to close the piano when not in use or suffer hair all over the insides. Now there is hair all over the piano lid. And key cover. But at least it comes right off. |

Since we were married, we've always had cats, always had pianos. Not one issue in 25 years of combining cats and pianos. |

Great picture, Kenny!musicascara, I've always had a few cats, and in the 6 years or so that we've had a piano, never a problem. I suspect the legs look too shiny to be an appealing scratch post. I suspect the only real problem would be if the piano was in a place where it was sunny, but since that's a no-no, it's pretty well ignored. |
