If you think this is bad, you should see the ones that I discarded as being a little crass. (Actually, they got blocked by the firewall, but the thumbnail looked pretty funny).

You're falsely trying to hide religious bigotry - and this, and past posts of yours have clearly shown that that's what it is - behind a screen of supposed humor. You can't get away telling "nigger jokes" by calling it "social satire."

I'm not taking sides on this particular issue (what Rick posted and what it means), but this idea right here, what Dewey posted, most certainly bears repeating.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Oh, Limey jokes are always OK.

^_^

Laughing at one's inferiors might be considered tasteless and unfunny. This is why Limey jokes are always amusing, whoever you are.

Is it true that you would not have posted a similar "article" about Catholics?
Was this "agenda driven"?

Everyone knows Kenny.
If I post something about oil consumption or gay marriage your defenses go up, or at least you read it differently than if I post about anything else.

Hi Rick,

I thought this was painful and ironic if I understood your political philosophy correctly as including inclusion and tolerance. I do not agree with political correctness and I have no issue with jokes about religion, but disparaging
a group of people in a mean spirited way based on their religion is fine offensive and boring.

A joke is irreverent or good natured, this piece was not and I think you should reconsider.

There's never been a joke told that didn't offend someone. Not one that was funny, at any rate. All one can really do is apologise for causing offence, move on and hope that they don't hold a grudge, or a big stick with sharpened pieces of glass embedded in it, smeared with rycin.

Or is that just me?

I've got one, and believe me, she's not even close to the description painted.

Anyone is more than welcome to go back through my posts and check to see if I have ever posted anything that good conservative Catholics might take offense to.

I have linked directly to both the Landover and Betty Bowers site directly many times. Anyone is welcome to go to those sites and see what they have to say about "Mary Worshippers" (i.e. Catholics). A few weeks ago, I posted from there and linked to the site and Jeffrey posted one of their articles about Catholics -- an article as scathing as this one. At the time I told him I thought it was funny, there was truth in it and that he should read more of the site because it was hardly the worst thing they had said about Catholics on that site.

Some people here really do need to learn to understand satire.

For those of you who are oh so concerned that someone's feelings might be hurt by blunt, biting social satire aimed at large groups, perhaps you should consider the type of personal and nasty comments that are made here on a daily basis -- often many times a day -- attacking individual posters by name. These are neither satire nor meant to be funny. They are simply nasty, mean-spirited and vicious, but almost never denounced.

As long as the type of vitriol we read here every day aimed at individual posters is not denounced by the people who have denounced this satire in this thread each and every time the vitriol is posted, forgive me if I do not take their protestations seriously.

Hell, get a grip people! This is satire!

Sheesh!
