As I say in my review, I don't like building up movies too much...because you might go in expecting too much. But I just got back from a screening of The Illusionist, which features Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti in Vienna in the early 1900's. New director, Neil Burger, was actually at the screening and answered some questions, which was nice of him. He very much has a M. Night Shyamalan style, and I look forward to more of his films. Anyway, the bottom line is...this movie comes out August 18th in a semi-limited release, but so far it's my favorite movie of the year, and I think you'll be surprised as well. A great movie, with entertainment and cinematic artistry. Let me know if anyone sees it! I'm curious what other people think... Trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/theillusionist/ |

For some reason, I think MS might like this movie. I don't know why!

I'm signed up with two free organizations that give out occasional screenings to get the buzz going about a film. They're free. I'm also with the DC Film Society, which costs 40 bucks a year, but pays itself off quickly with the 60+ screenings each year. Each movie is also free, and sometimes (like tonight) the director will show up. Pretty neat! ![]() Basically, I'll get an email announcement saying where and when, which comes out to a couple potentials a week. I highly recommend it, although sometimes Metro or parking fees cost as much as a normal movie!

Yeah, that is cool. I love movies, and see quite a few. If there is something like that around here, I'd join in a heartbeat. |

Riley, When I lived in Toronto, there were often offers to join stuff like that up at Ryerson in the film school. We'd also occasionally get invited to prescreenings at the theatre school. The opportunities are definitely there - the trick is just finding them! |
