Finally

Got up early today to wake Mrs. George (who's in Chicago attending college orientation day with Daughter #3) at 6:30. Usual morning routine. Walk dogs, shower, dress (in that order - one of the nice things about my place here is privacy. If I'm in back with the dogs and I'm in my bathrobe, nobody notices/cares. Then, coffee and about an hour on my digital Casio. At 9 drove out to Madison to look at the new Charles Walter 175. You can find my impressions here. I actually spent more time with a nice, very nice rebuilt M&H model A that was built in 1917. New action, pinblock, strings. Old soundboard that had been repaired. What a fantastic piano! The action was a bit stiff for my taste, but otherwise.... Got back around 1. More time on the digital. Cleaned the pool (some green algae growing that needed to be brushed off). Nap on the couch. Frozen pizza for dinner (hey, I'm alone!). Time spent here. Tomorrow - a day in the pool! |

Interesting, thanks George. I'm sorry to hear the tone wasn't to your liking. I don't think they do much if any voicing there as prep, they just tune and regulate. I could be wrong about that though. |

What kind of digital Casio do you have, George? My dad and I both have Casio PX100's. |

This is it PX 100![]() The thing I like about it most is the fact that it was cheap and the view I get. |

Definitely good value for its price. That thought and your photo ALMOST inspired me enough to get up and go in the next room and practice on my dad's....maybe after I eat. |

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
|
I have a Yamaha portable 66 key keyboard and stand that I take with me when I am in hotels, as I am this morning. But I would love to have a nice digital at home that I could play early in the morning and late at night. But.. since we have a 6'1" grand, a spinet, a keyboard, a violin, an acoustic guitar, a bass guitar and amp and the various accessories that go along with these things, I think my beloved would be pretty unhappy with me. |

Put it on the opposite side of the piano bench you use for your acoustic, and it only takes up another 2 feet or so of space, assuming you don't get one of those digitals in the big grand-type cabinet. |

That's exactly the intent when I get my grand. The digital and the grand will be facing each other, sharing a (better quality) bench. However, a grand in Wisconsin is going to have to wait until I retire and move my future purchase there. |

I Owe It All To John D'Oh
|
What I did yesterday ... Three hour ride up to Manzanita ridge. Gorgeous views of the mountains. Barrel races in the afternoon. I took a horse that isn't barrel-trained (I've seen him rear on others who try to spin him around the barrels) through cleanly. I don't know if we were the fastest, but we got style points. Evening, dinner with old friends. Good cioppino. Great molten chocolate cake for dessert. All in all, a good day. |

Barrel racing scares me. I was never one for speed on my horse. I always felt that something could spook him and off he'd go. I was on another horse, just cantering around, back in '99 and something spooked him. Over two or three jumps, hard turn to the left, and I came off - breaking two ribs... |

what??? You're short a cello, two guitars, a flute, and percussion! I want a good digital for after hours practice. I like to think of it as putting my insomnia to good use. It would be nice for four hands and concerti as well. |

I've had quite a few spills, but none resulted in broken bones. Very lucky. Also had a fair number of runners under me. I don't mind that, but I don't think I'd like barrell racing. Looks fun, but scares me for some reason.

I don't know why, but I'm never scared on the back of a horse. A good horse, anyway. Even when something truly bizarre happens, it all seems OK. Strap a pair of skis on my feet, though, and it's a different matter. |

My mare had been used for gymkana before I bought her. Although a super athletic, she would never calm down or slow down enough to be a good reigning horse for stock or penning competitions. Did you ever try cutting? |
