http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001248.php The Daily Muck By Paul Kiel and Justin Rood - August 2, 2006, 8:20 AM In Congress, the French Fries Are Back In an unannounced move, the House cafeteria has removed the terms "freedom fries" and "freedom toast" from its offerings, and has reverted to using the dishes' more common names, "french fries" and "french toast." Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH), who had implemented the change in 2003 in a fit of hollow but PR-friendly patriotism, refused to comment on the switch. "We don't have a comment for your story," a spokesman for Ney said. Owing to his notably unpatriotic involvement in the Abramoff scandal, Ney was several months ago forced to step down from his post as chair of the House Administration Committee, which oversees the cafeteria menu, among other things. The change appears to have been made by Rep. Vernon Ehlers (R-MI), although he too declined comment. An indictment for Ney is rumored to be mere weeks away, which could send him to prison. If that's the case, we wonder: will he rename it "the freedom house?" |

I saw a report the other day that they only work 76 days a year, and the lowest paid congress person gets 156K/year. |

I am certainly not going to defend Congressmen as a whole, however most of them work 24/7/365. They may only be in session 76 days a year (although I think that is not right), but any Congressman who is doing their job right is working a helluva lot when they are not in session but back in their Districts. As to their pay -- it is a lot more than the $156,000 a year. They also get a per diem for when they are in DC. Plus all the perks. Although, the compensation for government officials does not bother me much. However, I think the compensation for corporate executives is obscene. |

Do they have to pay by themselves for their assistants or is there an office allowance? Do you mean that they actually get meal money? Why? Do they have to pay for their own house in Washington at least? |

Mmmmmmm, pie!

Seeing as how you are a Socialist, which is only a hop and a skip away from a Communist, who thinks capitalism is evil and the government is the answer to all our ills, that would fit. People like you are a danger to the country, and should be run out of it on a rail. |
