No one at WTF answered me. Maybe you guys can. I need suggestions for a resort where the 30 or so members of my immediate family can have a long weekend reunion. We are scattered along the East Coast from Vermont to Florida and would like to have it at a place where we could all converge without too much trouble. Ages range from 3 months old to 77. Interests include golf, fishing, spas, and children's stuff. We like 4 and 5 star places with great food. We've discussed The Greenbrier and The Homestead. All of us have been there, done that and would like something different. Any suggestions? |

Do they have any places suitable for a big gathering, though? Lovely town, but most of the resorts are small bed and breakfasts. |

I would pick somewhere where the people on opposite ends of the geographic sides would have to travel the same distance, so no one part of the family would be overburdened with travel. Is there somewhere in the West Virginia mountains? |

I have rented whole houses there many times. There are some home that will accomodate extra large families, but I am not sure about 30 people. There are several large hotels that could handle a group that large though. There are diverse activities available and the food is hard to beat anywhere in the world. lb |

I've always wanted to visit Cape May. Thanks for that idea, lb. Taiwan girl, that would place us all at the Greenbrier, in White Sulphur Springs, WV. We want to do something different. A number of family have done a weekend in Asheville, NC at Grove Park Inn. Has anyone ever been in the Kiawah Island/Charleston area? |

A co-worker of mine is currently on vacation. He and his extended family rented out a couple houses next to each other in OBX. So many good options though on the east coast. Good luck!

That would definitely be leaning more in the favor of the Vermont-dwellers of the family, but I've always wanted to stay here. TONS of activities available. This used to be (I think in the 19th and beginning of 20th centuries) THE place to stay if you were somebody important, or considered yourself so. Gorgeous area! |

Marriott's The Grand Hotel at Pt. Clear - Fairhope, Alabama ... It's timeless, equipped, great food, boats and golf. They had a babysitter service when we stayed there too. Check Out: http://www.marriottgrand.com/?cid=goo |

My uncle lives in Charleston. It's lovely. It can be VERY humid in the summer, but I think it would be a good place for a reunion. There's a beach nearby (Folly Beach), a plantation, if interested. Fort Sumter. All very cool. http://www.charlestonsfinest.com/sc/forts.htm Lots of restaurants and hotel places... I recommend it. Last time I was there was Easter '01. Might go back this September/October. |

Hilton head or Amelia Island... maybe something around Savannah, which is a VERY cool place to visit. Hilton Head has everything you want and is pretty conveniently located for everyone. Plenty of resorts and restaurants of all sorts. Amelia Island is very low key, but has golf, tennis and very nice beaches for the kids. Also a stable where they can ride horses on the beach. There is a GREAT Ritz Carlton there, and a lot of condos/houses for rent. I'm sure there are a lot more hotels and resorts, we just never stayed in them. I'm not sure at all what might be around Savannah. If it were me I think I'd go Hilton Head simply for the number of options. |

We did Doral in January. Very nice. The women especially would enjoy the spa. They boys could golf. The kids could have fun in their water jungle thingie. The food is good but maybe a bit expensive. |
