Jimmy Carter; Comments on the Middle East

In a Washington Post editorial, the ex-President made the following comments:

"There will be no substantive and permanent peace for any peoples in this troubled region as long as Israel is violating key U.N. resolutions, official American policy and the international “road map” for peace by occupying Arab lands and oppressing the Palestinians. Except for mutually agreeable negotiated modifications, Israel’s official pre-1967 borders must be honored. As were all previous administrations since the founding of Israel, U.S. government leaders must be in the forefront of achieving this long-delayed goal.

J.C. didn't get it then and I don't think he gets it now. BTW, isn't Mahmoud Ahmadinejad one of the militants that took the US hostages during his administration? I seem to recall reading that somewhere.

That's what one of the former hostages said.

He makes wine and builds furniture and paints and builds houses. You'd think he would have learned to stay out of world leadership. I guess after 25 years you forget that you were the biggest disaster of a president in our lifetime. Too much of his own wine, perhaps.

Carter made me yearn for Nixon. At least he would not have spoken of his 'new awareness' of the Soviet Union's character after they rolled into Afghanistan.

The only good thing to come from Jimmy Carter being president is that every liberal philosophy got its day in the sun, and we now have a historical record of proof that not one single one of them works. We also have proof that liberals never learn, but just keep offering the same old failed ideas and bankrupt ideology over and over again. All one needs to do to see just how inept their leadership is, and how dangerous it would be for them to *ever* be allowed to be in power again is look at what Carter did, and then look at what they say we should be doing today, and note how little they have changed, or learned.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

He brought us Billy Beer.

It was the best tasting suds since Pabst Blue Ribbon.

And he reminded us that Georgia is full of nuts.

My dad bought a sixer of it back when, and mom still has it in the garage. I looked on EBAY, and I think he lost money on the "investment".

This would mean the US would have Republican presidents forever but I think many citizens of the US might want to follow the procedure the Constitution sets out having the legislatures of the states determine the manner by which electors are chosen.

Or we could declare one party rule. That would be awesome! :thumb:

Sure wish Jimmy Carter's energy plan had not been dismantled in the first year of Reagan's presidency. It was well constructed and would have had the US self-sufficient in energy by the turn of the century -- 6 years ago.

And of course, he was the only President to succeed in brokering a peace agreement between Israel and one of her neighbors.

I don't hear a lot of lefties defending Carter these days. His legacy speaks for itself.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

Unfortunately, the economic eggs laid by the Kennedy, and more importantly, the Johnson and Nixon administrations hatched on Jimmy Carter and he suffered the fall-out. I think the most nearly analogous situation would be Herbert Hoover in 1930-31.

Which neighbor would that be, and where is that peace he negotiated?

You have GOT to be kidding. Jimmy Carter didn't negotiate a damned thing.

What you took to be Carter's "honestly" was just his stupidity.
