Thanks, maybe I will someday.

Then again, not.

I think I'll boycot the guy.

What he revealed about himself merits a boycott.

During World War II, Soichiru Honda worked in research and development in the aircraft industry, increasing the efficiency of propellers for military aircraft of the Imperial Japanese military, thereby acting as an accomplice to the deaths of countless American lives during the war. Perhaps we should we boycott Honda because of that.

Good point.

I am reminded of that Honda gay-boycott thread.

Perhaps principles are for cave dwellers.

:(

Oh Carp.
Help me.
Where oh where is righteousness?

Frankly, I see very few movies so I have the perfect cop out.

I was for boycotting him yesterday. But, today's apology has swayed me not to boycott his movies. That is, depending on how he follows through.

Having said that, I'm still very disillusioned with the man and will not enjoy watching his movies anymore. Because now every time I see him I will be reminded of what he said while driving drunk.

I think the man has lots of emotional issues that he's been masquerading for many years now. Maybe he's been aware of the issues and has been battling them for a long time. I believe this is so. But, right now we finding out about these issues and he's a pretty messed up guy. I think any one who would have directed and produced something as heartwrenching as the Passion in all it's gore and glory must be somewhat messed up.

I get the impression that the man is struggling with some very deep issues. I hope the good inside of him wins the battle.

Very good post, Peggy. Generally my thoughts as well, and you covered them perfectly. I almost feel sorry for the guy. He seems like a good man, a good father and husband. He seems like someone who won't take carp from anyone in Hollywood and still makes hundreds of millions of dollars. But then, he does have these odd moments where his inner struggle is revealed and my sympathy grows.

I was already boycotting Honda before finding this out - but now there's NO chance in hell that I'd buy a Honda!

(Reason #1 for boycotting: Honda doesn't offer Domestic Partner benefits to their employees.)

What if you and I were in the same city and were going somewhewre and I showed up driving a Honda?
Would you take a cab?
Would you lecture me?
Would our friendship be over?
Would you look down on me?

You know, I DO have a Honda.
I didn't know about the boycott.
I am ignorant.
I don't really read gay media and am quite ignorant about lots of stuff.

I can't say I would still not buy one today.

In other words, you're basing your purchasing decision based on the merits of their product, and not on the past actions of the product's creator. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Kenny - You know I love you as a friend. I know other gay men who drive Hondas. As a gay man, I guess we have to choose our battles. You are rightfully caring for our environment in your decision to buy your Honda Hybrid. I choose to balance my care for the environment and my militant stance towards gay rights, so I choose Toyota. The Prius is still an environmentally friendly car, and in a similar price range to your Honda. Plus they offer DP benefits to all their employees.

And where did I write that I took offense?

I think if my car was stolen and i had to replace it I'd give consideration and test drive the Prius again.

I didn't like it when I drove one 3 years ago.

But DP bennies are important and I might sacrifice for a good cause.

I don't use my AC under 95 degrees for a good cause I guess I could drive a car that looks like a cockroach too.

I draw the line at 95.
94 ain't too bad with no shirt on and the fan full blast. :)

Moonbat, if you and I were drinking together and things got out of hand...and you called me names and yelled at me that night., something you had NEVER done before to me.....

...and then the next day felt awful about it, apologize multiple times about how things got out of control and were very sorry about it. And then decided to take me out to dinner and a round of golf, and wanted to work on reconciling above and beyond any personal offense I took to your comments...

....if I still, a week later said "Screw you man. I don't care what you say, I'm never talking to you again."

I'm sorry, that would be mean of me.

You are doing everything you can to reconcile the odd situation, EVERYTHING YOU CAN.

And to not forgive someone after all that, after a one-time offense.....is mean, IMO.

You seemed to need to justify your decision to drive a honda in response to CT's discussion of a boycott on Honda. It struck me as defensive.

I recommend:

Mad Max
The Bounty
The Man without a Face
Maverick
Ransom
Braveheart
The Patriot
Payback
We Were Soldiers
Signs

The book "We Were Soldiers" is based on ( a true story) is also a good read. For that reason, I do like that movie, along with Braveheart and Gallipoli.

Those would be my top three Gibson picks (never did get all the Mad Max stuff).

There is a "gay boycott against Honda".
I'm gay.
I bought a Honda.
I think explaining was a very natural thing to do.

I am an open and friendly guy.
I wear my heart on my sleeve here.
I catch a lot of crap because of it too.
I get caught in a million inconsistencies.
Guys like Jolly and IT and others relish in pointing them out.
Watch closely.

I'd have it no other way.

It seems so combative.

I've always held the opinion that if you make estrogen you gotta like Mel Gibson. I think I've seen all his movies and I liked them all, some of them in a pretty unseemly fashion for a married mother of three. Tequila Sunrise anyone?

:P

But my favorite is definitely Braveheart.

You do like your analogies don't you, this one isn't so awful though :).

However it's too quick. In your scenario you portray me earning back your trust, what has Gibson done so far that exhonerates him so completely that you would suggest anyone who has not yet forgiven him is mean?

(Edit: also i think alot depends on what exactly is said, people can say unforgiveable things, not because of the words, but because the words can demonstrate that they are not the person you thought they were)
