In good pasture, that's all they need.

A dual purpose breed...

Very interesting, although I'll skip the book "My love affair with the Dexter."

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Wouldn't they have little bitty prime ribs? They'd be cute. Kind of like Cornish hens vs. chickens.

They have lots of advantages for folks that don't have a lot of land.

They are a dual purpose breed, meaning they are not great milkers or excellent beef cattle, but can do decent job of either one. They don't make huge T-bones, but they taste ok. They may be hard to milk because of hairy teats, and they may not produce a lot of milk, but the quality is decent, butterfat-wise.

They are pretty hardy, can be raised with a minimum of shelter, as disease-resistant as anything else. If you have to put them on hay, or feed, since they are smaller, they eat less.

Going back to slaughter weights, a lot of guys like them because you are only talking about a 300lb carcass weight, and that allows people to cut down on any freezer spoilage they might have.

They are one of the definitive "homestead" type cattle breeds.
