Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

*bump* for Number 6.

How about telling us something about yourself? How did you arrive here? Why the sudden shift from sockie behavoir to substantial contributions?

I came here on the recommendation of a good friend. (Hello good friend! )

It was around Christmas time that I started looking around, and that was the time when everybody seemed to get a sock puppet (Bond, Bauer, Mr. T and others). So, to remain somewhat below the radar, I assumed a name that was like some of the socks that others were choosing.

The sockie behaviour was just to get a feel of the place, and so when I started posting something a bit more substantial (though it's hard to keep ahead of some of the forward thinkers here), I realize threw people for a loop.

I am a professional person with a post-graduate degree. My interests include politics, my beloved piano, and my wife (not in that order!). With any luck I can be a contributing member of this forum. All seem intelligent (with one or two exceptions  ) and all seem to want to have a good time as well (with one or two exceptions again!).

Thank you for the courtesy you've extended to me.

Welcome!

Glad to have another member. Now for the really definitive question: what do you want to drink? (first round is on me)

Now for the really definitive question: what do you want to drink? (first round is on me)

I've been acquiring a taste for Bourbon. I don't know much about it, but I prefer its taste to Scotch (not as harsh). However, the vast variety of Bourbons is intimidating, and I really don't know where to begin. Suggestions?

I too find many bottles of bourbon intimidating. The reason for this is they're often being waved menacingly at me by derelicts. Last week one shouted 'I need a number 2!'. I think I've figured out why.

I usually have bourbon only in a Manhattan, so with mixed drinks the brand is not quite as important. But Knob Creek makes very nice sipping.

Check out Small Batch for some tips.
