I start my masters program in a few weeks: International Training and Education. I'm pretty excited!

Full time, but that only translates to 3 classes (all in the evening). Hopefully my coursework won't be too heavy so that I can work enough hours to keep up with the cost of living around here :hair:

If I was smart, I'd take a course. I have to find out what I need to jump me up to the highest level on the pay grid. But if I do end up taking one, it'll be all online.

I have very definitive plans of someday going to get my Master's. But until I get the required funds, that's gonna stay in the category of "definitely maybe".
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Me too, Aqua. Alas, I have to take 3 additional qualifications courses to jump into the higher pay bracket, so I can't justify taking any courses towards a masters until after that. And I think I want to get a Masters in history - which means it's totally unrelated to my job - more of a hobby, which may be difficult to justify to myself. We shall see.

Good call with the random Masters! One of my college advisors was a perfect example of how little your degree(s) control your career path, if you choose not to let them. He taught the simulations and computer modeling courses, and he had his PhD in philosophy. ^_^ Real smart guy, though.

It's of course just idle thought for the time being, but I briefly considered creative writing for my Master's. I decided against it, though, since that's something I care to learn on my own. I would like to have it be something I'm interested in, though. Maybe I'll go back to astronomy, who knows.

I'll have more concrete ideas when the possibility becomes more tangible, methinks.

Soak is a good example of that as well. In college he took Music Composition and Comparative Theology. Now they pay him an obscene amount of money to do computer stuff.

I've just finished my final course to earn my Community Librarian certificate. (this is assuming I don't blow my final exam tomorrow, but of course I am using my time wisely today and studying, can't you tell). Hardly a masters in Library Science, but an entry level qualification, and fun for a mid-life career change.

I'm taking another course in September, Child Services. I'm also seriously considering working towards a Library Technician Diploma, :nerd: :nerd: because the courses are now being offered online, and I believe it's do-able while working p/t.

Library work is by no means a great paying occupation, but I love it. It's a perfect fit for me. Only took me 45 years to figure it out. :P

Call your local Rotary Club and get information on the Rotary International Graduate Fellowship (the "Paul Harris Fellowship").. They'll send you abroad for a year (and you get to pick the broad :rimshot:), all expenses paid: airfare, tuition, books, living expenses, etc.

You sing for your supper at Rotary Club dinners throughout the year.

You have to go to a foreign country, and be able to speak the language. If you are semi fluent (enough to fool the jury but not enough to understand lectures), they'll also send you early for 3 weeks or so of immersion language training.

Now is about the time to apply for next year.

Rotary has been berry, berry good to me.

Embedded control is taking a small microprocessor, loading it up with spftware and putting it into some system of actuator and sensors and turning it loose. That's not a good explanation, even in layman's, so let me give you an example.

In my class, the students have a small battery power car (about a foot long). It has a motor to steer the front wheels and a motor to propel the car. The students write software that tells the motors what to do based on signals they receive from sensors (specifically vehicle speed and steering error). In the end, they turn the car on and it will follow a strip of tape around the room on it's own. They love it.

It blends electrical and mechanical engineering with programming.
So live your life and live it well.

You don't need no class -- you paint wonderfully and have a Blüthner.
