Considering to POTC thread, what is the best movie sequel ever made?

"Best" meaning able to stand entirely on its own, with good writing, acting and effects...

In addition to The Godfather, I'd nominate:

1) The Empire Strikes Back
2) Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Yep.. but after that disatrous first Star Trek movie, a ham handed rehash of two old shows, anything would look good.

I would say Spiderman II was quite good.

The Star Wars movies just never did much for me, for whatever reason.

That's the "action thriller" category.

Godfather II made the list in the top 100 movies.

Do they make movies that aren't action/thrillers? :shifty:

I'll agree with Spiderman II and Empire Strikes Back. Are we taking into account stories that were always meant to be trilogies or sagas? IE Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc......?

Oh, and Temple of Doom was the best of the Indiana Jones movies.

T2......ehhhhhh, ok. It was better than the original, still not my favorite though.

G2? What's that?

Alex Trebek: [ shakes head ] Let's just go with Foreign Flicks for $800. [ Connery buzzes in. ]

Sean Connery: Ursula Andress.

Alex Trebek: What?

Sean Connery: Ursula Andress, Catherine Deneuve, and Charo, twice.

Alex Trebek: That's Foreign Flicks, Mr. Connery. Foreign Flicks.

Aliens was a pretty decent effort, I thought. Also, I thought the Indiana Jones series were all pretty fun. I don't think you can count The Empire Strikes Back (my opinion is that it was the best of the SW movies) as it doesn't stand alone.

Aleins Special Edition yes, the theatrical release, no. Chopping out the automatic sentry cannons from the theatrical release was a travesty. Now turning those same sentries on Jar Jar Binks, *that* would be a sequel! :)
