If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead

Massachussetts Museum of Bad Art 580 High St Dedham, MA 02026 Phone: 781-444-6757 http://www.museumofbadart.org/ According to its Web site, the Museum of Bad Art has as its motto, ''Art too bad to be ignored.'' And that it is. Curator Scott Wilson has filled this gallery with artwork found mostly in the city's trash heaps and garbage cans, and for some strange reason it's a hit. Founded in the fall of 1993, the museum was originally housed in the basement of a private Boston home. It has since moved into the basement of the Dedham Community Theater, where the gallery is free and open to the public. Exhibits have such silly titles as ''Bright Colors/Dark Emotions,'' ''I Just Can't Stop,'' and ''Know What You Like/Paint How You Feel.'' One exhibit brought the entire collection to Cape Cod, where the paintings were hung from pine trees. The apparent success of the odd little museum has caused it to expand. Through its Web site and by word of mouth, MOBA seeks bad art from outside the Boston environs. It has opened a museum gift shop, and purchases (such as bad art apparel, mugs, books, reproductions and calendars) can be made online. The museum has also published a book, has a newsletter and created a CD-ROM. Artwork hanging in the Museum of Bad Art comes from good artists who had bad days, as well as from truly horrible artists. Oh this sounds perfect, thanks Mik. It's very close by to where we are. I wonder if I can take the kids. |

HOLY CARP!!!

Hmmm... I definitely want to visit this place. Hey John D'Oh, may be we can organize a little TNCR field trip to visit the MOBA? There is probably no other group that has the required sense of odd-ball humor and cynicism better than the TNCR bunch to appreciate MOBA.

That's kind of what I thought... the two of you and Quirt,, maybe the Frost family. I know I'd love to see it. Not quite sure WHY, but I know I would. Perhaps with all these amateur musicians we could start the Archive of Criminallybad Keyboarding (ACK). |
