Cool article.

Hypothesise are continually generated and falsified that's how science works. In this case it looks like Seager has a pretty strong case for the overstatement of the effects of the Gulf Stream. It will be interesting to see if there are any letters by other climatologists next week disputing his claims.

I think it also gives an indication of why climate modelling can be very usefull.

Good Lord, if we posted one of these with the thread title like this one has every time some religious or Scriptural "scientific fact" has been found wrong over the centuries, we'd fill this entire Board!

It seems to me, this article is the perfect example of how science works -- a theory is developed, perhaps even accepted in the broader scientific community as the best to explain what is perceived to be happening. New data comes in, the theory is challenged. If the new data and its impact on the old theory can be objectively shown to be accurate, a new theory is developed.

When this happens, I don't see science as being "busted." I see science at its best.
