And your second car was a '73? Did you drive the '47 until 1973? |

Nope. Bought the '47 in 1973 from the original owner. Bought the GS from a Master Sar'nt in 1975, who suddenly discovered that he had a new family member on the way... |

![]() 1962 Triumph. Just like this but with disc wheels, wood dash and a chrome ball shift knob. It was very pretty when I bought it for $750. I had several small collisions, a left rear wheel fell off and then the motor went bad. Had it for three summers during college. I wish I could one just like it when it was new to me but now they are 20 years older and cost about $5-8k in that condition. |

Mine was a 1941 Diamond T I bought from a neighbor. It was a restoration candidate, and I ended up selling it to someone who really did that sort of thing. I can only hope it ended up looking like this:

A 1969 Oldsmobile Toronado. The closest thing to a tank on the road. Compared to the rest of you, I overspent ... paid $600 for it. |

I love the Toros - especially the '66 and '67. The gas pedal looks like it came from a bus. |

   ![]() First car allowed to drive was a semi restored 63 Galaxie Ford Convertible. In the winter, we would put the top down, drive around town and have chinese fire drills at all the red lights.... only stipulation... you couldn't use any doors to get out or in. Ahhhh such fond memories. Next car... Little red opal $500. Cost to clean up the gallon of white paint spilled in the interior $70. Watching me learning to drive a stick shift and stalling at every stoplight.... Priceless!!! (according to my sister) |

Anyone else name their cars? My wife's family did. Thru our marriage we have tried to do the same, naming the Prelude "Rose" because of it's color, the Mitsubishi was named "Mitzi" and we named the Civic "Angel" because it was white. In between we had a green Ford Escort wagon that we must have appended a name to but I can't recall what it could have been. The Accord became "Rhonda" because it was our Honda. I never refer to them by the pet names and neither does my wife. |

I still have my first car ('96 Subaru Legacy Wagon), but it's slowly going downhill. I think it could have lasted a lot longer, but the original owner lived at the beach and the salt air/floodwater made the insides all rusty. It's been a great two years with it, though ![]() (mine's green-ish, with driver-side body damage) |

In 1968 I got a 1964 Mercury Comet Cyclone. It had a 3 speed manual trani, AM radio, roll up windows, no A/C and a black fake leather interior. I think I paid $900 for it -- it looked like this picture, only burgundy: |

The soaking was only in the back floor. I don't know what it is...the water did look awfully rust-colored when I cleaned it up, though. The squeaking only happens when I put the brakes on. It happens about 80% for a few days after it rains, and then not so much, so I'm not too worried about that, but I want to get it checked out while I have a warranty. |

This was what mine looked like, except mine was brown. '64 GMC 1000 Wideside. Paid $600 and for Christmas that year I got a spiffy new Earl Scheib $49.99 (with $5 free bodywork!) paint job. An artist buddy painted Fritz the Cat on the tailgate. Livin' large!

![]() This was the first new car I ever owned. A 1986 Mitsubishi Mirage Turbo (actually I photoshopped it a bit because this is an '87). I loved that car but it was not built so well. Annoying plastic squeak for most of its life and at 90k miles the clutch and CV joints all went together. Cost $1500 to fix and a year later I sold it for $1700. I also financed it at 14%! ![]() Mine was just like this '87 Model but without flush headlights. |
