I've been doing a ton of research on these cars, using Consumer Reports, Motor Trend, Edmunds, and some other websites. I've test driven the Lexus and the BMW. I've driven the older Camry models, and understand that the new one is even better. I'm wondering if anyone on this forum has any of these three cars and can give me their opinions on them. Thanks! |

I don't know anything about cars. But! I do have a suggestion. Ask Eins over at Fat Shirley's to be found in Larry's forum. Eins knows cars. http://www.armleg.com/forum/index.php?mforum=pianosinc |

The BMW is a cool car, but a pain in the neck. Everyone I know whose driven one loves to drive it, but hates to repair it. Not very reliable, and even routine service (like tune ups) cost an arm and a leg and have to happen frequently. In other words, its an expensive car to buy and to maintain. Your insurance will probably be highest on this car (depending on how old you are). If you love driving cars then the BMW is probably the coolest. If you're in the middle, the Lexus is very reliable and has a lot of pep. If you're just looking for good, reliable transportation the Toyota is probably your best bet, plus you get karma points for the hybrid. |

My X had a 325is and it was very expensive to maintain and repair. Do you get carpool lane access with a Camry Hybrid in your state, and is that a factor for you? Personally I think the Lexus is WAY more cool than the Bemmer. |

Especially more cool than the 3 series BMW. Now.. you start talking 7 series.. THAT's a CAR! (As well it ought to be for that price). |

I believe all new bmws include all services and repairs for the length of the warranty...no maintenance costs at all. still would get the lexus though |

Not from the front, IMO. They look like a Jimmy Durante Mazda. I would go for the Lexus as well. |

Oh, another thing: The Lexus has an imaginary back seat...there is absolutely no legroom for anyone to sit back there. If you were a friend of mine, and I offered to drive on a trip, which car would you prefer? |

Well me and my partner Christopher make 2, and any guests make 3 minimum - so the back seat would be necessary to have a guest. |

If you want to surprise yourself go look at the new Hyundai's. Also Kia is making some pretty k/a models too. They are related to the same parent corporation I believe. My next car is probably going to be a Civic Hybrid (cept I think it may be a little too smal) or a Hyundai Sonata or Azera. ![]() http://www.hyundaiusa.com/vehicle/azera/trim/limited.aspx |

If I were your friend and you were going to take me for a drive, I would want to be in the Beamer. Front seat of course. |

Mark - I was very impressed with the new Hyundai's, but for the price, the Toyota is a better car in my opinion. Also, I like Hondas, but they aren't a gay-friendly company. |

Probably the lexus for the road trip, too. I dunno - whichever has the most room/comfort. Infinity G5 sedan is a GREAT road trip car - and the coupe is a great sports car. |

You posted your question too early. Let's see, so far you've test driven the Lexus IS250 and the BMW 325i but not the latest Toyota Camry model. Test drive the latest Toyota Camry and then you'll be in a better position to compare all three. You should know in the first five minutes of driving a car whether you like the car or not. At least I was always able to. If you have any lingering doubts about a car, then you can rent it for a day. Test drives from a car dealership are free while renting a car for a day will cost at least $50 so make the best of the dealership's test drive. |

Nina's analysis is spot on. The BMW is the most fun to drive, by far. By a lot. The Lexus and Toyota and equally reliable, but the Lexus is a bit flashier and more fun to drive. I have an old 325ic (convertible), and my girlfriend has a new one. Both stick shift. They're a blast, the most fun of any car I've ever owned. |

Lexus, but step up to the GS model. If mileage is an issue go for the 6 cyl., but the V-8 is a rocket motor and doesn't burn all that much more fuel. Back seat is roomy, and it's far-and-away the best road car I've ever driven. Reliable as a claw hammer. Buy it 1-2 years old for the best value. Keep it three years and you can probably sell it for nearly what you paid for it. |

My girlfriend told me to mention that she has BOTH a Toyota Camry and a BMW 325. She keeps the Camry to drive her dog around, she won't let the hairy beast in the BMW. For her, it's no contest. It's the BMW, hands down. The Camry is only for when she's carrying something dirty, messy, or hairy around. (I guess that doesn't include me, since I've never been in her Camry.) |

I'm jealous. I might need a new car in the next year, so I'm starting to look around. My limit? Probably $14K. (payments, not straight cash) I guess we all had to start there though...:P |
