Really. Nestle has a horrible reputation in the third world for aggressively promoting its baby formulas regardless of the health consequences for the infant, and regardless of local regulations designed to provide information on pros and cons of bottle v breast to new moms. Mothers are being encouraged to stop breast feeding (much like in the U.S., when breast feeding was seen as tacky, inconvenient or uncivilized) and start using baby formula. This becomes a huge health issue when you realize that the formula must be mixed with water. Typically infants don't drink water for months, relying only on breast milk. Switching to water-mixed formula becomes a huge issue when the water itself is contaminated, as is the case in many third world countries. Babies end up dying of dysentery or other water-borne contagion. As for Jenny Craig, I guess you could eat Ding Dongs for a month or so, then go join Jenny Craig to lose the weight, then start eating Ding Dongs, then back to Jenny Craig. All Nestle, all the time! Creating your own customer base. |

jeez, that is twisted. Nina, is Nestle still pushing their formula in third world countries? I somehow thought they might have stopped that after all the bad press, but I guess that's unrealistic. There was quite a lot of talk about that 15 yrs ago (it was when I was pregnant, and I boycotted all Nestle products for several years. Felt I had to do something.) |

I am so adjective that I verb nouns!

I would also be surprised if Nestle was still doing that. Of course, they are Swiss, and the Swiss are profiteers from way back no matter with whom they are in alliance. |
| The dogma lives loudly within me. | |

Wow. Thank you Nina, for the link. That is really, really disturbing, but important for us to know. I'm disgusted. |
