Robert Liston, surgeon, 1840's, "fastest knife in theWest End of London, (( and perhaps the world:)):

most famous case:

amputating a leg in UNDER 2/1/2 minutes, (sans anesthesia in those days) (( the patient died afterward in the ward from hospital gangrene, they usually did in those pre-Listerian days)).

He amputated in addtion, the fingers of his young asisstant (who died afterwards in the ward from hospital gangrene, they usually did in those pre-Listerian days).

He also slashed through the coattails of a distinguished surgical spectator, who was so terrified that the knife had pierced his vitalsl he dropped dead from fright.

This was the only operation in history with a 300 percent mortality.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead

I guess it's funny now. Perhaps not so much at the time. But... in retrospect... in the absence of anesthesia, speed would be a virtue.
