HOLY CARP!!!
That reminds me of a snippet of Emerson:

I like a church; I like a cowl;
I love a prophet of the soul;
And on my heart monastic aisles
Fall like sweet strains, or pensive smiles;
Yet not for all his faith can see
Would I that cowled churchman be.
Why should the vest on him allure,
Which I could not on me endure?

As much as I respect and love my SBC brethren, and even as much as I agree with some of their political stances over some of those of my own church, I think they're mistaken here. Well-intended, but wrong.

I'll have a glass of Merlot, please. ^_^

If you're looking at Jolly and seeing two of him, you've had enough already. ^_^

Yes I know you're Presbyterian. My reading comprehension isn't that bad. Just using poetic license. Come to think of it, I don't know what denomination Jolly is.

If there's one good thing I can say about America, it's that you took all our Puritans away.

I agree with your assessment of wrongness on this one Dewey. I'd just like to point out that the vote was not unanimous and that there was quite a lot of dissent.

Make mine a sauvignon blanc, New Zealand will be nice, I think.

SBC. Raised Methodist. Nothing like beating the brethren with a little Wesley, now and then....

Drinking? Very little. A bottle of medicinal will last me a couple of years...we all have our vices, I guess.

But this has become a hot-button issue in the denomination. The SBC college in Louisana (of which I am an alumni) has decided to enforce the morality clause of the teacher's contracts - you drink in public, and you no longer work for them...

It's often the people who drink in private who you have to worry about.

We have quite a few Methodists in my family, none of whom drank at all. Poor devils. My grandmother used to be in the temperance organisation The Band of Hope. Different strokes, I guess. I do have a hard time equating alcohol and morality, although it's really none of my business. :)
