As much as it pains me to find statistics that support Jolly, here goes:

Here are Interpol 2001 crime statistics (rate per 100,000):

* 4161 - US
* 7736 - Germany
* 6941 - France
* 9927 - England and Wales

Here are the Interpol 1995 crime statistics (rate per 100,000):

* 5278 - US
* 8179 - Germany
* 6316 - France
* 7206 - England & Wales

Are those crimes, or violent crimes? The murder stats from Murder stats

give

#24 United States 0.042802 per 1,000 people

#46 United Kingdom 0.0140633 per 1,000 people

which aren't as extreme as I claimed (damn!), but indicate 3 times as many people murdered in the US per capita.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

Here's what you wrote:

If you want to think that I don't know much about guns or the people that use them, that's your business. You are welcome to depart from reality as much as you like.

Now, if you want to enter the world of lawyers and liars, and try to semantically parse that statement to your benefit, go ahead.

But in the world of the common man in which I dwell, that's pretty clear cut to me.

Pretty clear cut, based on absolutely no knowledge.

I do believe that sums up your posting history.

Your statement indicates you have knowledge.

I have asked you to enlighten us.

So far, you have tap-danced around the moon, but you haven't provided anything.

So c'mon...tell me what is "the" famous FBI load, who was Elmer Keith, describe the famous shot at Adobe Wells, the pros and cons of Weaver vs Isoceles, basic Israeli pistol technique, why the .45ACP was adopted, the difference in parralex between a .22 scope and one on a hunting rifle, what the magazine plate on a pre-64 Featherweight is made of (not the same on the newer USRAC ones), what companies made the A5, how to shim with chewing gum wrappers, whether you use blue or red loctite on a scope mount, why a .32 Win Special has the twist it has, what's a suicide special....heck, can you tell me anything?

And I have refused.

All you know is that I choose not to respond. Based on that, you assume lack of knowledge.

If you believe that choosing not to respond indicates a lack of knowledge, you must believe that our dear President is the least knowledgeable person in Washington. :lol:

Let's see:

Elmer Keith is probably the widest known authority in the world on small arms.

Billy Dixon fired the famous shot at Adobe Wells, knocked an Injun off his horse at close to 1 mile. Documented.

Weaver vs Isoceles - the only thing I've heard mentioned between these two stances is that only people who play with handguns rather than fight with them use the Isoceles stance.

The .45ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol Cartridge) was invented by Browning and is a very popular cartridge as it combines accuracy with stopping power on human targets that is.

Those are the only ones I know the answers to Jolly. I'm gonna look up the others.

So what are you shimming with the chewing gum wrappers anyways?

Some rifle receivers or scope rings are out of tolerance enough that you run out of adjustment on your scope before achieveing zero. The thin foil from a gum wrapper is a great shim - thin, metallic, and easy to get the right thickness.

Weaver wins gun matches. Isoceles wins gunfights. Jim Cirillo shoots Isoceles, and has killed more men in gunfights than anyone in the last century.

Phillipino tribesman, hopped up on narcotics, could not be stopped by the .38 spl cartridge of the early 1900s. The Army wanted a larger caliber, one capable of planting someone at close range with a minimum of shots. They also wanted semi-auto firepower...ergo, the 1911 Colt, although Luger made up a special batch of .45's, and Savage had a pretty decent entry inot the trials.

Oh, Keith? Most handgun hunting bullets of today still use Keith profiles. He was known to have killed big game at hundreds of yards with a .44 special on a S&W large frame with souped-up loads - forerunner of the .44 magnum.

The .32 Win Special uses a "blackpowder" twist, and was originally offered in the Model 94 Winchester. Because of the meplat, many hunters beleiev it has a killing advantage over the more well-known thutty-thutty.

The floorplate on a pre-64 FW is aluminum. Later versions were steel. Later versions also had a schnabel forearm, and push bolt instead of a claw extractor.

Parallex on a .22 scope is fifty yards, not 100 yards.

Several companies made the A5, including Browning, Remington, Savage and Springfield. The Springfield is the most rare, with a production run of 500 guns.

A suicide special was a break-top revolver, cheaply manufactured, popular in the late 1800s, early 1900s. Iver Johnson made a shipload of them.

I could go on, but I'm waiting for Quirt to jump in....BTW, Quirt, what was that gun that Wayne carried in The Angel and the Badman?

There's a reason why we left Britain - specifically the enforcement against protesting your government through silent and symbolic means.

I always assumed you were born in the USA. I didn't know you ever "left" Britain.

I did, and I will again this summer :tomato: :croc:
And how are you today?

Actually, until pretty recently, personal weapons were the norm in Japanese society.

OTOH, they've been pretty much banned in England, one of the most violent societies in the First World...

I think murder rates are a little higher in the US, actually, by a factor of about 10. I believe that much of the violence in the UK would be considered relatively minor, and I suspect is largely the fault of the English propensity for binge drinking. Adding firearms to that particular pastime would not be a very smart move, IMNSHO. Americans don't have the same problem, since anyone foolish enough to binge drink American beer is liable to require urgent medical attention.

Beer aside (where you may be right, I don't know), the staistics I looked at this morning showed Britian quite a bit higher than most of the West for violent crimes. Didn't check the murder rate, though...

Yeah. It (UK) was number one last time I checked, which was a while ago, for bare-handed assaults.
And how are you today?
