Generally speaking, of course. Can you hear it? Click below for the mp3:

It's a high-pitched sound that younger people can hear, but older people can't.

I can hear it, sounds like that high-pitched sound when the TV is on, but many of my friends don't know what I'm talking about.

Sorry, gotta go...I think I hear a bat calling my name. :leaving:

MS, sometimes I'll come home to my parents house and I get so annoyed when they leave the TV on, but without the cable box on. AKA, you can hear the high-pitch sound in the background. They don't know what I'm talking about but I'm like "Can't you hear that!?!? Turn it off!!!"

perhaps this also explains why parents can tune out so many other things.

I'm almost old, and I can still hear it. Did you hear the other sound, the one saying 'worship Satan' over and over again, or was that just me?
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

No, you are old. It says "Walter Payton".

No. Freak.

Besides, the "Where's the chocolate?" voices overpower everything else for me.

As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

 Well thank you John, I do appreciate the LARGE PRINT. I, ahem, could not hear the ring tone, but in proper old-person style, I am blaming my carpy computer for not being able to hear it.
It certainly isn't me.

And while in old-person mode I would like to say that this is a stupid idea anyways; kids aren't going to hear this ring tone because they all have their ipod earpieces permanently embedded in their ears.

Well THAT was one of the most annoying noises I've ever heard. Ick.

I heard it, but only barely. A few people have told me that TV's emit a noise, but I have never been able to hear it. They have tried to show it to me but I can never hear anything. I turned that mp3 way up, and still only heard a light ringing in my ears. I wouldn't have noticed were I not listening for it.

We get power outages fairly often, and that's when I really am aware of how much 'noise' all the electronic goodies we have in the house make. It's actually really nice to get away from all that once in a while; to remember what quiet really means.

So, you're looking for an old fart?

I heard it! Wowie!

Granted, I had to turn it up to get over all the other noises in the room, but there's no doubt I heard that high pitched sound!

It can depend on the speakers/headphones as well. At work through my headphones there I only barely heard it (I suspect because it only barely sounds through those headphones) and at home I hear it very distinctly through different headphones. I'm sure some cheaper headphones don't carry the sound at all.

I heard it. And I tried the link in the other thread and heard that one also. Both were very annoying sounds.

The other thread link to the sound reminded me of the high pitch whine I hear when the dentist is drilling on the teeth. And it was just as irritating.
