I've had several problems with various apartment management team as well. Once they tried to charge me $400 for not renewing my lease when my lease contract clearly stated that if the lease was not renewed and neither party gave a 30 day notice then the contract would automatically renew on a month-to-month basis. When I brought this up to them, they seemed completely dumbfounded.

Recently, I gave the management hell by not renewing my lease when they wanted me to. I felt justified because when I moved in they told me that I would be getting a new door for my utility closet (among numerous other things). Instead they had someone do a crappy patch-job on a hole, on the door, that had been kicked in by the former tenant.

I think I just might adopt your method of retribution.
