I found this gem in the article - "the laws are now so complex, it's impossible to obey all of them". I think this is arguably true, yet I'm none too certain what can be done about it. I know and at least in part agree with the Libertarian mantra to make a bare minimum of laws, but I don't trust my health and welfare to a totally unregulated society. I am personally familar with a small subset of the laws and regulations that deal with activities for which I hold specific responsibilities. I labor through some of these, but I can generally discern some reasons for their existance. Codifying all the carefully tailored words to allow some things where there is no feasible alternative while prohibiting other things that must not be allowed because a greater harm would result is very complicated because we live in a very complicated world. If we lived in a completely moral, altruistic society where no one would try to do something for their own benefit that had detrimental consequences to another, we would need far fewer laws. Fortunately or unfortunately, that is not the world we live in. I know there are no simple solutions. I would be delighted to entertain suggestions as to how things can practically be made simpler Big Al |
