Whoa, Nellie. If I recall correctly, Seattle had mandatory bussing in the mid 80s to desegregate schools. My friend's sons were bussed from Northgate area way down to somewhere around the Kingdome. |

You can bus kids until Hell freezes over, and you won't change a thing. It didn't happen in Boston, not in Seattle, and nowhere in the South. A black friend and I had much this same conversation a few days ago. His take? The black/white/hispanic thing is not nearly as important as the color green...and no amount of busing, magnet schools, or mandatory programs will ever trump the Benjamins. |
