Whoa, Nellie. If I recall correctly, Seattle had mandatory bussing in the mid 80s to desegregate schools. My friend's sons were bussed from Northgate area way down to somewhere around the Kingdome.

You can bus kids until Hell freezes over, and you won't change a thing. It didn't happen in Boston, not in Seattle, and nowhere in the South.

A black friend and I had much this same conversation a few days ago. His take?

The black/white/hispanic thing is not nearly as important as the color green...and no amount of busing, magnet schools, or mandatory programs will ever trump the Benjamins.

I agree, but I also believe that these two issues are tied in together somewhat.
I cite irreconcilable differences.
