Phlebas, thanks for the transcript. I'm not defending her, I'm just saying her point is this:

Quote:

Ms. COULTER: No, but don't use the fact that you lost a husband as the basis for your being able to talk about it while preventing people from responding. Let Matt Lauer make the point, let Bill Clinton make the point. Don't put up someone I'm not allowed to respond to without questioning the authenticity of their grief.

She is talking in general. It is her opinion that people aren't allowed to talk back against the widows, against the Cindy Sheehans, etc. She wasn't being self-specific. In a way, she has a point. Something I've heard all over the place when debating Sheehan's shameless tactics is "Well, she lost a son, she's allowed to say these things, etc." When you have an emotional victim lobbying for something instead of an objective person, it's already a tilted scale.

But Issac, isn't this point absurd on its face?

Michael Moore and Cindy Sheehan are among the liberals most viliied by conservatives. There are lots and lots of people talking back to them and against them.

So, she is justifying her actions based on a lie. And she is telling a lie so she can justify her mean-spirited, barbed, nasty tongue to stick a knife into people and turn it?

Why do conservatives continue to allow this woman to speak on their behalf? Where are the conservative leaders disavowing her and isloating her?

Cindy Sheehan got a free ride from the media, and a lot of conservatives held their rhetoric down until they learned what a nut-case she was/is and how much she lied.

As for Coulter lying about the "Jersey Girls" would you please point out the lie?
The main obstacle to a stable and just world order is the United States.- George Soros

A lobotomy wouldn't hurt.

The founding of the bulk of the world's nation states post 1914 is based on self-defined nationalisms. The bulk of those national movements involve territory that was ethnically mixed. The foundation of many of those nation states involved population movements in the aftermath. When the only one that is repeatedly held up as unjust and unjustifiable is the Zionist project, the term anti-semitism may very well be appropriate. - P*D

Exactly what does that mean? Do you "allow" Al Sharpton or Al Franken "to speak on your behalf"? Last I checked, Rick, we still had a free country (or at least as free as market forces will allow).

And that would mean exactly what, Ax? Did you dismiss Kerry because of the Botox or do you reserve such ad hominems only for conservatives?

Um, if I were to guess, I would say Ax is just trying to be punny, and not really taking this as a serious crack against an already crazy political mouthpiece.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I had to look him up, as I admit I've never heard of him. He sounds like another knob-head. Where do these people come from? And why won't they go back?

John, I never cease to delight at your use of clever descriptions.

I shall definetly take "knob-head" to work tomorrow.

We have been waiting similar action by liberals against the Michael Moores of the world.

OK, I'm willing to believe that you believe that. But since when did you start subscribing to "two wrongs DO make a right"?

Talk about Annie on her own merits. This makes it sound as if you agree that she's a nincompoop, but you won't denounce her out of spite.

I don't hear anybody from the left complaining about Ward Churchill's comments.

Ward Churchill has been investigated thoroughly by the university ethics committee. On May 16th, they released a report stating they found evidence of "serious wrongdoing," including plagiarism, academic fraud, research misconduct and improperly claiming Native American heritage.

It's not clear what his sanction will be... firing, suspension without pay for two to five years. The university has yet to decide what it will do.

I think I'd consider that a complaint. Maybe you think they should have shot him? ;)

Her comments seem to have served her purpose, which was to raise her profile in the public eye and get publicity for her book. Were we talking about her three days ago??

Now if we could get Coulter and Moore to marry, we'd have an even more intriguing pairing than Mary Matalin and James Carville. Coulter and Moore could then go on to achieve lasting fame by touring the country together as the number 10.
