Do you check traffic reports?

HOLY CARP!!!
I can choose between several freeway routes to get to work.
I always check the Internet before driving - See Below.

Green - Good
Yellow - Soso
Red - Sucky

On the website you can click on the flashing blue triangles for lots more info on what the problem is, when it happened, how many lanes are blocked, and if the cops are on the scene yet.

Jose and several other people I know never check.
I think these are the people who have no sense of direction, can't read maps, and have no idea which way North is.

Do you check the traffic on the Internet, Radio or TV?

If radio reports count, then yes, yes I do. I pretty much have to.

Kenny,

Damn, do you live in LA? I was out there last week and should have looked you up.

I drove in in the morning from San Bernadino on 91 and if I had to do that everyday I would end it all. Life is to short to go through that carp everyday.

HOLY CARP!!!
That's why I wake up at 4:00 AM every day and have a carpool lane sticker.

I love where I live.

But yeah, there are people I work with who spend over 4 hours in a car every day. :dead:

My mom and I hardly ever check traffic reports. On the DC beltway, if it's rush hour, and the traffic is moving at 5 mph, it's a normal day, and the news people don't even mention it. It's only mentioned if there is an accident or stand still.
And how are you today?

Are their alternate routes?

If not, I can understand not listening because there is nothing you can do.

Says here I personally spend 16 days a year in traffic.

That's freaking ridiculous.

EDIT
There are, kenny, in that there's exits all around the beltway you can use to get off. Basically, they're pretty decent with reporting traffic. Just about every accident gets reported, or construction back-up, or something like that. Much more often than not, they'll report it. Some spots they never bother with, because it's like that every day and it's not too detrimental to traveling.

Kenny, everytime I get in my car I check for the traffic report on this news-traffic-weather radio station, and they have reports every 10 minutes.

Also, before I leave work each day, I check out the traffic cameras on my commute. Usually it's the same thing, but every now and then you'll catch a major back-up and you'll take alternate routes. http://www.wtop.com/index.php?nid=370&tlonecam=yes

I never have to. I've got a 20 minute drive to work, and I can either go down I-95, or go on Route 1. Since I cross over I-95 just before joining, a quick glance over the bridge tells me which way to go. Working and living 20 miles outside of the city is great.

It's rare that I have to worry about it, because I typically don't have to drive during rush hour.

When I do, I'll listen to the radio. We don't have nearly the options you do in LA, though-- so usually it's just to decide if I can take the freeway or stay on surface roads.

John,

I was on I-95 through Richmond last week also, and I can't see that it was any better than LA traffic.

My traffic report on a bad day would sound something like this:

"For those of you travelling down Wheatley Line to Tilbury this morning, you might want to leave a a good two minutes early this morning. There's some sort of farm machinery taking up the entire northbound lane of traffic, crawling along at 30kph. Traffic is backed up for 6 cars. We'll be keeping an eye on this one and let you know as the situation develops."

Oh, I-95 can be horrible, it's sometimes completely log-jammed. Trusty route 1 is never fast, but it's very rarely stationary. If it wasn't for my quick glance over the bridge, my blood pressure would be way higher than it's current healthy average.

I check traffic report by listening to local AM radio station... not that I really need to know traffic condition, just to have something to listen to on the radio. :P

Traffic is not normally much of a problem on my usual route, so it catches me by surprise when a big jam-up occurs. A major reconstruction project is scheduled for next year so that may change.

The thing that caught my eye was Kenny stating that he woke up at 4.00 am AND had a carpool lane sticker. I thought the whole point of carpool lanes was so that you could avoid traffic. Must be all those hybrids clogging the carpool lanes.

I'm with Al. 1600 people in Nutter Fort....
the only traffic jam is at the Hardee's drive through in the morning
or when the police chief stops in front of your house to say hi and everyone else driving by stops in the middle of the street to chat
or on Fridays at Bonnie Bell Pastries when she makes those nut roll thingys

I'd rather fall into chocolate.

Good to know there are still some places like that. :)

I have a reverse commute in the bay area, which means that I glide along at 65 or more on my drive up I-80 away from the city in the morning and towards it in the evening, watching the barely-moving parking lot across the divide the whole way, and wondering how people put themselves through that every day without going nuts.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

I listen to traffic reports on the radio, but it semms like 95% of the time they don't talk about the traffic jam I happen to be stuck in at the moment, so the reports end up just being an object of derision for me.

That CT San Diego map works great, however.

Now that you mention it it does sound nutty. :silly:
(Which has never stopped me before.)

I've been getting up at 4 to work 6 to 3 forever, and I LOVE getting out of work at 3:00.

Also I prefer to go slower than the carpool lane is usually going for improved MPG.
But if traffic is TOO slow and the carpool lane is flowing, it is wonderful to be able to get over and fly in first class.

I have the best of both worlds. :trumpet:
